Who the hell gets out of their vehicle when pulled over? I sit with my hands on the wheel and my license/insurance in my lap.

I had to play it on my phone for it to work.

It's an overly dramatic (though done intentionally I would assume) version of the Dinkheller video. While it's a little different and some dramatic license was taken, it's still pretty scary that it is basically what he saw in his final moments with that situation.

Most normal people do just that. But this guy wasn't a normal person.

I got pulled over for not wearing my seatbelt a few weeks ago by a State Trooper. He got out of his car and yelled "Driver step out of your vehicle". I've never had a cop tell me to get out of the vehicle before and it scared the shite out of me... I was thinking "I hope he doesn't shoot me".

i just saw this and watched video. Terrible to watch, cops are in such a dangerous job. In situations like this, shoot first and ask questions later. Let the court system figure it out. He should have shot that idiot in the face soon as he came at him yelling

Old video but probably one of the most chilling I have seen. It's up there with pre-plane crash audio and that reddit post where he killed the woman recently.

Cop didn't do what he was taught to do and it got him killed

pre-plane crash audio

there's been a few times I'm glad we didn't crash just because of what would have been on the tape

This is what happens when we send people to war and expect them to come out fine. The loss of the officer's life was a tragic consequence, but it's ultimately the fault of the United states for failing to care for returning veterans. Executing him was disgusting and cowardly.

Well, if it helps, the government took 17 years in this case to make sure, all the while providing - at no cost to him - every living and legal expense for this murderer.

Yes, but this needs caveats too. It's not like these guys get top notch legal defenses on the government's dime. Moreover, it's not like 17 years can necessarily change the bad judgment of a jury (in theory, not here).

This happened 30 years after returning from Viet Nam. Do you believe Brannan knew right from wrong?

quote:

the court-appointed psychiatrist concluded that Brannan was sane, and the jury could have inferred from comments made by Brannan during the crime and after his arrest that he shot the victim because he believed the 22 year old deputy was not showing him a sufficient amount of respect. Regarding his dancing during the altercation, Brannan explained to the police that he once defused a tense situation with an angry man by dancing and saying “shoot me.” He also later told a psychiatrist that he had seen Mel Gibson act that way in the movie “Lethal Weapon.

I dunno, he's acting like a complete and utter nutjob, approached the cop combatatively multiple times, and is obviously agitated as hell. To me, this is a different scenario than the innocent guy gets shot pulling a cell phone out of his pocket. This dude just comes off as a complete nutter.

Cop haters here have vilified a cop for shooting a dog dead when it was a large breed dog that was in mid leap upon the cop when the shot was fired.

There are many cases of excessive force, but even the legit ones get critiqued.

I'm surprised at least one didn't pop in this thread in fact.

You idiot, that was the desperate defense angle trying to get sympathy.

Granted, I don't know much about PTSD, but if it was really triggered here, would he really be making jokes?

I'm one of those people who usually critiques the police, but had he put bullets in the guy when he went back to the truck, I wouldn't have disagreed with the shooting.

As an officer safety instructor, we have used this video several times in training officers on the use of deadly force. This video is in my opinion, absolutely heart breaking because the officer's hesitation caused his life and he had a horrible death as a result. The back story was that he had recently been disciplined for using excessive force. It made him hesitate which cost him his life.

Paralysis through analysis is what we call it.

Glad to see that that scumbag piece of shite is dead at the hands of Justice and not his God. Burn in hell.

Impossible to quantify how many officer lives that video saved....but I bet it is a lot!

As horrible as the event/death is and as hard as it is to watch, I'm glad it was caught on tape.
