I'm anti death penalty but I also don't really weep for people like this either.
I just don't trust the government to get something correct with this level of finality.

As soon as the guy, crazy and all that, went back and rummaged in his vehicle, he shoulda been shot. I don't think anyone would have an issue with that.
Things like this really test my anti-execution stance. Andrew Brannan resembled more an animal than a human being in that instance, and because of him a child has to grow up without a father. It is disgusting, and I hope there is a hell just so he can burn for eternity.

So your solution is to simply give them shoes and cereal and torture those people with random shock therapy for the rest of their lives.
Hell yes. Death and death row is an easy out and a painless remedy. It doesn't fit the crime in my eyes.

That being said, I've never been in that position. I can honestly say, I dunno if I could take a life if I didn't have children.

Agreed. Before my life was actually in danger I don't think I could do it. But once he started shooting at me. I'd kill him. I'm accurate with my guns.

This guy was a Vietnam vet with major PTSD and was off his meds.
This is such a bullshite fricking line. You can blackout or wake up from a nightmare that you're acting out, sure but blaming you being a homicidal maniac on PTS is bullshite.
Myself and many of the guys from my units have PTS and you know how many times we shot or stabbed or rampages on people?
None.
People with PTS hurt themselves bc they hate the fact they're alive. It's a bullshite cop out.
I am in no way saying this is the reason he did it or that he should be given special treatment because of this. I am just saying that this almost certainly contributed to the situation.

quote:Really? That's the title of the CNN article on the execution? Just an innocent ol' veteran? Fvck CNN. How about, "Georgia Executes Murderer of 22-Year-Old Cop, 17 Years After Murder"? I think that'd be better.
Georgia executes Vietnam veteran
Anyways, glad this guy is dead.

I couldn't disagree more.
Sure, with hindsight we'd have known that he was reaching for an M1 Carbine. But had he been shot with nothing more than his license and insurance sitting on his seat, there would've been an uproar.

I dunno, he's acting like a complete and utter nutjob, approached the cop combatatively multiple times, and is obviously agitated as hell. To me, this is a different scenario than the innocent guy gets shot pulling a cell phone out of his pocket. This dude just comes off as a complete nutter.

I don't disagree with any of that. Just saying that it's easy to say in hindsight because we know he had a weapon (and a far superior one at that). I'm simply saying that if he goes back to his truck to get his license and registration and gets shot then it's a whole different ballgame.
Once Dinkheller knew he had a gun though, I'd have stopped shouting commands and started shooting. He definitely gave him too much leeway (understandably so based on the previous events though). Sad situation all around. It sucks that the dude is a Vietnam vet and suffers from PTSD, but he very deliberately murdered this kid, and even yelled "Die, fricker" at him when he delivered the kill shot to the face. Vietnam, PTSD, or not, that dude is a stone cold killer and I'm glad to see justice was finally served.

Which would have been swiftly and logically silenced by the video showing the cop yelling at him repeatedly to not return to his vehicle, to "come here", to not reach into his vehicle to retrieve anything, and certainly to take his hands out of his pocket. He should have been shot and killed the second he reached into his vehicle.

here's a POV re-enactment that came out last year I think. I forced myself to watch it once and that was enough.
