Ah, so he's a guy with a PhD that works in hotel management.

At first I thought you meant that he had a PhD in the field of hotel management and that gave me all sorts of WTF feelings. It would seem that the opportunities for original, academic research would be few and far between.

There is a good Freakonomics podcast about this. In fact, that guy may be a guest on that episode.

I was gonna make a sarcastic comment, like, "Here's a tip, get a real degree". But then I realized he's beaten the system.

What kind of moron gets a PHD in hotel management?

And I say that as a former hotel employee.

His actual degree is in Social Psychology, but he teaches at Cornell's hotel management school. All that wouldn't fit in the title field.

I don't give a shite about his thoughts on the art of tipping but I'm really enjoying his "celebrity tippers" page where people e-mail their (probably fake) stories.

quote:

Tony Dorsett, one of the football greats of all time, is a very bad tipper, and on top of that he gets drunk and cusses out customers, and treats people very badly. I was working at a restaurant in Orlando Florida, with an NFL theme and I waited on famous people all the time. Tony Dorsett had to be the rudest, most disturbing customer I have ever served: no tip, and on top of that a little 12 year old boy came up to him with a football and asked him by name "Mr. Dorsett, will you sign my football please?" Tony Dorsett told this kid to go frick himself, how much ruder can one get???

Yes, we aren't talking Hampton Inn. More like Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton.

Yes. Cornell and Rosen School at UCF in Orlando are the gold standard. And as Glassman said, this isn't to become assistant manager at the Hampton Inn Houma, but to become Executive GM of the JW Essex House NYC, Ritz Carlton, etc.
