The name of the school in Lafayette is named Louisiana-Lafayette, or UL-L. It is NOT the University of Louisiana and never will be.
Calling the school in Lafayette "University of Louisiana" needs to stop. Now. ESPN needs to be corrected for doing this.
I have no idea why the people of Lafayette are so ashamed of their city and why they want it removed from the official name if their school. The people of Monroe are nothing like this.
And like previously stated in this thread, the only "University of Louisiana" is located in New Orleans, although that school chooses to be named after their primary benefactor.

Since ULM pussed out and let them lay claim to the Louisiana tag on their own they they contractually have a right to it.

I'm an LSU fan, you stupid frick, and I'm definitely not part of the Saturday alumni. Of course, the point I was making flew right over your head. If you're going to make fun of ULL, claiming they're small ain't the hill you want to die on when you're only 50% larger and are still absolutely dwarfed by schools that are truly large.
There are far more fun things to make fun of like the penchant for affliction shirts and stupid haircuts.

ULM's taxpayer subsidy is $6.3 million, half that of ULL.

How beetle headed are you to believe that a UL education is equivalent to that of a community college? It is not an Ivy League school by any means, but a LSU education is not superior. My grad school classmates from LSU were under prepared by a landslide in comparison. Don't get me wrong, they caught up quickly, but there was a learning curve.

"Louisiana" is our athletic brand name. Nothing more. The school isn't changing the name. We don't go by "University of Louisiana." It's a freaking brand name that helps promote our university. Nothing more. And you know why we separate ourselves from ULM? Because we are more than twice their size and have research money that almost triples what they have. The only thing these two schools have in common is the athletic conference they're in. And we own them in all phases in that spectrum as well.
LSU has their own share of issues to deal with. I'm sure their administrators aren't thinking about our name as much as their are trying to keep their finances afloat from an academic standpoint with all of the budget cuts that this state has recently gone through. And the fans should worry more about that God awful performance tonight on national tv than what we call our school.
You want to know why people on other states laugh at us as a whole? For stupidity like this. Worry about things that matter. Not what we call ourselves.
