I agree. It needs to stop. They still call UL-Monroe "ULM" but they call UL-Lafayette "Louisiana".

Exactly what i came here to post... Reminds me of 20 yrs ago or whenever it was that USL wanted to change their name to U of Louisiana and the powers that be at LSU stipulated that they had to call themelves Louisiana-Lafayette... It reeked to me of pettiness and insecurity then, and it's sad to see that some LSU fans still get their feelings hurt when the school in Lafayette is referred to as 'Louisiana.'

Why doesn't the school in Monroe deserve to be called "Louisiana"?
They're better at football than UL-Lafayette anyway.

That would be fine, whatever.. they can all hash it out, Monroe, Hammond, Lafayatte, Natchitoches, etc.. But it's pretty well-documented that LSU fought it tooth and nail b/c they didnt want the competition .. and no, I'm too lazy to find a link.

I guess it depends on how you judge the programs. ULL has more bowl appearances and bowl wins, along with more recent success than ULM.

The difference is people in Monroe are proud of where they come from; while Lafayette folks are not.

ULL wasn't allowed to call their sports teams (the university is still Univ of LA at Lafayette) Louisiana as long as Monroe had a problem with it because it caused confusion.
Univ of LA at Monroe decided to rebrand as just "ULM" in athletics, which allows ULL to use Louisiana
