3. I mean what if the woman had to stop for any number of other reasons? Hell in a routine traffic situation in the U.S. it would be the motorcyclist rear-ending the woman who would be considered at fault in such a similar scenario.

There would have been brake lights on. Everything changes when she puts vehicle in park, and does not engage emergency flashers. Had she done that, liability issue would have changed dramatically.

I can't believe you people can't distinguish between vehicles traveling, and one rear ending the other, from a vehicle that stops on an interstate, places the car in park, let's off the brake, and proceeds to exit the vehicle.

Let's not forget this happened in Canada. Why does it matter if she spends 50 years in jail? How bad can an all white prison be?

If you pulled over OFF the road you would be fine because you would not have been stopped in a lane. If you are one of the people with no situational awareness who thinks you need to check your tire in a lane of traffic....and it causes a wreck, YOU are responsible for being a complete and utter dumbass. Why would any one with any common sense stop on the road to check a tire? Anytime I have been concerned about a tire I pull off the road immediately if there is a shoulder and if not, I slow down and drive until there is a safe place to examine the tire. Who stops IN the road? Idiots.

Just stop in traffic on the interstate and start changing your tire. The driver that hits you is automatically at fault. They rear ended you.

No, you would not. Stop lying to get a response. No way you would feel worse killing a opposum than a 5 year old child.

At 50 mph, allow at least 5 car lengths.

In theory. The two second rule works much much better though.

No way you can maintain seven car lengths at highway speeds.

Any drivers in this thread? You can see she stopped her car on the highway with zero shoulder so she is an idiot. Cars coming from behind probably had trouble predicting a car on the highway was not moving. The cars in front of the motorcycle switch lanes At the last minute so the motorcycle sees the problem too late. It happens all the time on busy highways with no shoulder.

Yea, it's a really crazy notion that a motorcyclist should be able to pay enough attention to notice a stopped car in front of him. Not removing some blame fr the woman, but you have to pay attention to what you're aiming your vehicle at.

She came to an abrupt stop, car behind her (and ahead of the bike) immediately switched lanes. Guy on the bike had no time to react.

As a rider that's not a good enough excuse. I'm always watching what's happening with the cars in front of me. This story is a perfect example of why.

Again, not saying the lady deserves a pass on her stupid decision.
