Reminds me of Archer

"That's like the third saddest thing I've heard this week. Pam was telling me about a little girl who died trying to save a drowning puppy"
"Jesus Christ what was the second saddest thing?"
"The puppy died too"

OK. Well I can admit when I'm wrong. I did not realize that all dogs could not swim. I thought instinctually they would swim before drowning. All breeds.

I wouldn't sit by idle on the bank watching my dog drown and worry about what if I were to drown.
I can swim. I also realize dogs can swim, too. But perhaps the dog was struggling with its collar or the like.

this is my biggest fear about hunting. waders and heavy clothing + deep water = dead.

he was found without his waders on. He took them off and jumped in after his dog.

So you don't bring him into a pond. How does the owner not know if his own dog can swim?

I love my dog very much, but I wouldn't save her if there was a good chance I'd die. I love my son more and he needs me.

I wonder if a mermaid has ever asphyxiated trying to save a landed fish.

your ability to take something out of context is just plain nuts.

making an emotional decision on the spot to risk your life to save the dog (trying to save the dog from drowning, for example)

pretty much the context to which I was replying.

Why? Don't currently have a dog, but have in the past. I'd do a lot to save/protect, but there's no way I'm sacrificing myself.

because my dog is like a family member to me. I'm not saying I'd choose the dog over my wife, or give up a kidney for it. But if my FBD was drowning or something similar, oh hell yes, I'd do anything I could to save her.

I doubt the victim intended to drown while saving this dog-anymore than I would. But shite goes wrong quickly and these things happen.

For people to find fault with his decision or suggest his effort was in error is foolish. Lots of choices end tragically or with unintended results. Doesn't mean the guy was wrong. Just didn't get teh outcome he intended.

I have a dog and luckily he can swim (part lab). I love him, but I'm not willing to die for him. Hell I'm not willing to even go into debt for him if he had a condition or issue that would cost thousands of dollars to fix. In the end, he is just a dog.

and this is where you and I differ on this subject.

And I'm fine with that. Your dog, your choice. To each his own. I, however, do not believe its just a dog, so my choices would be different.

My dog is my dude. I would do some stupid shite to save his life. Also, I am a damn strong swimmer so I don't believe I would drown in a pond.
