What's his story? Found some videos on YouTube and he seems legit crazy, but has a ton of views.

If you don't know him, me not linking his videos are a favor to you.

He was a standup comic in the sixties, was involved in the Civil Rights movement. Later he had a lot of unorthodox ideas about health and nutrition, and spent most of his time promoting that. IDK if he's still alive.

He was part of the new wave of black comedians in the '60s, along with Bill Cosby, Godfrey Cambridge, Flip Wilson, and others. Some felt he was the most talented of them all. FWIW when Mel Brooks decided he needed a black writer for Blazing Saddles, Gregory was his first choice. But he turned the job down.

As previously noted Gregory went sorta funny in the head in the '70s. I'm not really familiar with his work. I do know one thing: Gregory wrote an autobiography which he entitled N****r (no asterisks). When his offended mother asked him why he called it that, he replied, "Don't worry Mama. Now whenever somebody says that word, they're just plugging my book."

i thought he came to St.Louis during Ferguson shite, to protest City hall in downtown.

The only time I ever heard the name Dick Gregory was in the movie House Party when Pops was making his health shake.

Most Racist SOB I have ever seen.

I was invited by T J Jemison to a show at many years ago which Dick Gregory was one of the featured performers.

I was only one of 4 white people in attendance. Everyone treated us great, all the performers were awesome, until Dick Gregory took the stage. I walked out the theater half way thru his performance.

For some of the older posters here who remember the Cedar Grove riots that broke out in Shreveport back in the late Eighties, you will remember that he came to town and stayed for awhile. I can't remember what he actually accomplished but he was in the news for awhile and stayed in Shreveport for awhile during that time.

There was a line in white men can't jump that referenced him

Well Dale Brown definitely does. They were pretty thick back in the day. In fact, Dick Gregory's motivational speeches and nutritional advice are largely responsible for LSU's multiple basketball national championships back in the day.
