Monkeys get fleas...I have some intestinal distress. The two are not related.

Downs folks are sweet...Also not related.

Life is difficult. Dealing with brain abnormalities is very sad. Everyone has problems but having Down's syndrome or severe mental illnesses is quite difficult.

I think they're lucky. I have thoroughly come to the conclusion that stupid people are much happier than smart people. Suicide victims almost without fail have an IQ of 110 plus, because they think about how fricked the world is and how they shouldn't be a part of it. Stupid people don't think that way. I feel bad for their families though.

sure, if the downsies parents are going to be around to take care of him/her when they're hitting their 70s-80s

This is true for most people in their 70s and 80s. Take a look in a nursing home and you'll see a lot of people with no one that helps them. Also, the average life span for those with Down Syndrome is 60 years old.

eah but for every Hellen Keller like you're talking about, there's like a hundred regular down syndrome people.

Look, I wasn't referencing Helen Keller type Down syndrome people. I think I was telling you that most people with Down syndrome have a full range of emotions. Most wish more for themselves and you have to disappoint them regularly that they will probably not marry, be a photographer for a profession, will not drive, etc. Most want more however and talk about it often. so, think what you want.
I've seen someone push them down bleachers (not knowing they had a missing vertebrae that exposes their spinal cord). I've seen a woman scream at a DS girl employee at subway because she didn't want her sandwich touched by a retard. and I've seen worse. I've seen one have their head pushed into lockers and made to crawl a hallway being bullied. There's some pretty bad discrimination and cruelty they probably each have encountered gone unreported. They've probably endured more than you, but I can't be sure.

I get it that this is the OT lounge and you have to push back like I'm glorifying Down syndrome lives. but I don't think one thing I said typifies the Helen Keller of the people with Down syndrome. I think I'm just giving you a perspective that they are unique with a full range of emotions and capabilities. Yes, it's subway and mcdonalds job capabilities, but they are largely people that want more - to drive and to marry or even just go to prom - and can't have it. Look, I've seen one DS kid work so hard to learn to "jump rope for heart" that couldn't jump rope even once before the challenge, that would leave you crying for the accomplishment both from fundraising and from doing the challenge itself. So, regular Down syndrome people are pretty inspiring too compared to most lives, even if they aren't Helen Keller types.

Helen Keller didnt have Down Syndrome. She was blind and deaf, but her cognitive ability was intact.

no I'm fully aware. That was a reference from Lucas P. "Helen Keller types" is what he said, which I figured he thought I was referring to exceptional not regular types in a previous post

My brother-in-law has Down Syndrome and is a complete blessing to all of us. He lives without ever worrying what others think about him, loves his family without question, has the honesty (sometimes brutally honest) of a child, and never complains about anything.

No I don't think down syndrome makes you blind. It's more like a mental thing.
