this has to have somehting to do with OBama

The only thing related to Obama with this is that the people who think this is the bank's fault and/or would take the money and flee the country are most likely Obama supporters.

Never, not even once. I try hard to always do the right thing even if it is harder. Besides, I am not a poor.

No, I don't. I figure a cashier is going to have to pony up the money when the register doesn't balance at the end of the night. So I give it back.

Solid.

The places I've worked where this applied to me never asked any employees to make up the difference. Typically there is an expense set up in the budget for these exact mistakes.

I find that most people are honest when it comes to this as well.

This is where you're wrong. Nobody put the money in his account. His account had $300 in it. He took the money and ran his account balance to a NEGATIVE $1.5M.

He did not get his statement and see $1.5M in his account and start spending it. He just realized that he didn't have a limit on his overdraft protection. He took the money and nobody stopped him. That is different from somebody put the money in his account. And, BTW the ATM where he took the money from? It belongs to the bank.

Defenitely an error by the bank, but it all comes down to the personal responsibility of the individual. That is what is wrong with America these days...nobody wants to accept responsibility for their errors, and stupid people in this world like some of the posters on this topic think its ok.

It's the same as stealing. He knew it wasn't his money, so he's definitely at fault!

re: Detroit man gambles away $1.5 million accidentally given by ATM
In a similar story, the company I was working for in 2009 accidently overpaid a temporary summer worker. They entered their monthly salary as an hourly rate. The young lady's weekly check was in the neighborhood of $27,000, when it should have been around $300. Nobody caught it for 3 weeks, and when they finally did, she quit her job and lawyered up.

This was a case where the company actually DID put the money in her account. Does anybody here think she should have been allowed to keep the money?

BTW - she eventually was forced to pay the money back.
