stop signs don't apply to the sidewalk, where the cyclists should be riding

At least in NOLA(and I think most jurisdictions) its illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk unless you are under the age of 16. My dad got stopped for this and did 5 years. Of course, that was because of what they found after they stopped him.

i completely agree.....but if i'm on a bike riding on the shoulder of a highway where the speed limit is 55, so you know people are going 60+ at times, debris on the road seems like the lesser evil compared to that of a moving vehicle.

They got this one husky baw I see frequently on my drive home from work around 4:30-5:00 on Essen Ln. He is a big guy and he rides his bike everyday, and goes over that little elevated portion of Essen before it turns onto Jefferson.

He pedals extremely slow and his bike wobbles from side to side, with cars constantly moving around him. Amazed he hasn't been hit yet.

They like to run through red lights as well...

I almost blasted some hipster on the way to work at St Charles and Washington.. Dude slammed on his brakes when I came close to hitting him.. Then the dude starts screaming at me...

About a month ago I almost completely mowed over some overweight dork who was biking a hilly road with a 50mph speed limit. He apparently was completely gassed and doing about 20 mph on the other side of a hill that I couldn't see over. I slammed on my brakes and obviously gave him the finger.

People like that do not belong on the road. They have a death wish. Get a gym membership and sit on the exercise bike like everybody else.

LSU did a study that showed abt 90% of accidents are the cyclists fault.

Overcoming the inertia of full stop on a bike requires much more effort than mashing a gas pedal on a car.

Well, you know what overcomes the inertia of a bike easily? The mass of that car on the cross street. So, it's too inconvenient to stop? Then they smashed and the outrage happens. "Nobody watches out for cyclists!!!" And then they go put their painted white bicycle at the site and everyone hangs crap on it.

Follow the damn laws and stop whining.

Link? I've seen some that say it's closer to 50/50, but still always 52 driver or something. Never seen one with cyclist as more. and I've seen plenty of studies that show 70%+ of the time it's on the driver.

Most car/bike accidents are the car getting a cyclist from the rear. it's pretty much impossible for the cyclist to legally be at fault in those scenarios.

If you are riding on the street, it should be law to follow the rles of the road. If not, go frick yourself and die.

It is the law that they follow driving laws.

What gets on my nerves, especially uptown Nola, are cyclists who ride the wrong way down a one way street. When I come to a stop sign and the cross street is a one way, I look carefully in the direction traffic should be coming from. However, I usually just glance the way traffic should not be coming. Once a year or so, there's some dumb arse cyclist riding the wrong way I nearly take out, and they always act like I'm the one breaking the law...

i love the ones on hwy 22 in mandeville that have 6' of shoulder to ride on, but they are toeing the white line of the road.

i'm like hey, it may be your right to be there, but why risk getting hit for your right when there is plenty of room on the shoulder?

Riding in the "debris" lane will get a cyclist a puncture about every ten miles. The travel lanes get swept by cars all the time, all that crap ends up just off the travel lane.

This kind of riding is really intelligent.
