stop signs don't apply to the sidewalk, where the cyclists should be riding

If you are riding on the street, it should be law to follow the rles of the road. If not, go frick yourself and die.

They have to ride on the street by law, and they also have to follow the rules of the road. I have seen cyclists receive tickets for running stop signs. It's hilarious.

Because about 90% of drivers roll through stop signs.

Cyclists really are douches. I'll wave to them while running through the neighborhood but very few wave back.

By law, they must stop, just like cars.

But it is tempting as hell to roll through because of a couple reasons.

One, when a cyclist slows down, they have been going slow a while and had plenty of time to see that no car is coming. A car driver, in contrast, slows down briefly and does not get nearly as long a look on a rolling stop as a cyclist who was probably never going over 20 or 25.

Two, and this is the main reason, it is a bitch to clip out of the pedals for a full stop, put a foot down, clip back in, and then restart. Overcoming the inertia of full stop on a bike requires much more effort than mashing a gas pedal on a car.

This isn’t a legal excuse, but these are the honest reasons so many cyclists roll through signs. I’ve rolled a few, but I mainly put a foot down, no matter how big a PITA and waste of time, because I knew some car drivers would be watching and take exception. .

Because the other 10% only ride on roads without them.

When I'm on the road and approach an intersection I want to clear the intersection as quickly and safely as possible to allow traffic behind me to pass. If I can accomplish this without coming to a complete stop, I'm probably rolling through. Drivers complain about cyclists not stopping at stop signs at clear intersections, then ride my arse and pull risky maneuvers to pass because I have to restart my momentum

yeah. Coming to a stop and putting your foot down is sooooooooo hard. And overcoming the inertia? Really? It's a fricking bike. not an 18 wheeler.

I like riding the bike for a nice workout while I commute.

Just don't make me use and extra energy.

Usually because I have passed you once, YOU rode within 3 feet of my stopped vehicle to get ahead of the traffic.

At this point, I am led to believe you are ok with violating the 3 foot rule.

Mighty assumption right there. I have never done that, or seen other cyclists do that. But in that instance, I'd have no qualms with you running them off the road
