Mighty assumption right there. I have never done that, or seen other cyclists do that. But in that instance, I'd have no qualms with you running them off the road

This statement explains why there are so many issues with cyclist. Y'all are obviously riding around with your eyes closed to not see this type of behavior.

Two, and this is the main reason, it is a bitch to clip out of the pedals for a full stop, put a foot down, clip back in, and then restart. Overcoming the inertia of full stop on a bike requires much more effort than mashing a gas pedal on a car.

That's absolutely the main reason and I would suggest it isn't as much the momentum issue as it is the inherent instability during the clip in pedal stroke.

BR has the least bike savvy drivers of any college town I have ever been in so I tend to give cars a wider berth than I would in other places, I usually fall in line and take the stop sign like a car and track stand while I am semi-stationary.

I'm surprised, as a cyclist, you have never seen another cyclist ride to the front of the line beside stopped cars. I see it all the time and it is pretty much standard in big cities. Obviously, if there are bike lanes it is completely legal but I see cyclists take advantage of this quite frequently. In places like NYC, Seattle, Austin and the like cars are more used to cyclists than here, doing it here is not just illegal but rather nuts.

I completely understand the cyclist mentality. I think it is crazy, but honestly, if I rode all the time I would see myself doing the same thing.

Doesn't make me right.

I imagined he was talking about passing a cyclist and having him leapfrog directly in front at a red light or stop sign. I don't commute in a downtown area or huge city, its a suburban area so cyclists stay single file in the line of cars at a light and move to the side to allow easier passing after the intersection. I wouldn't cycle in any high traffic downtown area that didn't have bike lanes. Way too much going on to expect every vehicle will notice you

Why do older couples ride on both sides of the road so you can't pass

They have to ride on the street by law

In Baton Rouge that isn't entirely true. There is a law that says they cannot ride on the sidewalk in "business districts" AKA downtown, but in residential areas it's perfectly legal for them to ride on the sidewalks.

Why do 90% of drivers in BR get stuck and block the intersection when the light changes?

Cause road bikers are fricktards and when they blow stop signs and redlights and god forbid a car happens to turn right on red = cyclist dead, idiot road bikers are why you save your old C & D batteries maybe a AA but the best velocity is with C & D!

They should obey signage.

My biggest beef with bicycle riders is when they are riding on roads, they need to get out of the way of cars and not impede them.

The reasoning isn't any different than all the people in cars who run red lights, do rolling stops at stop signs, speed, etc.... People take short cuts all the time for some type of percived reward.....

The main difference is the negative consequence for a cyclist could be death. A motorist may just have to spend a few thousand to get their car fixed...

Most cyclists are douches because to become one you have to make the decision to put your health and fitness above other people’s desire to commute to work at a rate faster than 11 mph.

i love the ones on hwy 22 in mandeville that have 6' of shoulder to ride on, but they are toeing the white line of the road.

i'm like hey, it may be your right to be there, but why risk getting hit for your right when there is plenty of room on the shoulder?

i know why....they're douches as mentioned before.

They make bikes with pedals that you don't have to clip into. Are most bikers that incapable of keeping their feet on the pedals. Don't say it's to help with speed and blah blah blah, I get that, but most bikers are not out there training for a bike race.

Coming to a stop and putting your foot down is sooooooooo hard.

I'm guessing you don't understand that on a bike that isn't bought from Walmart, your feet are *attached* to the pedals. You can't just lift up your foot, you have to disengage the mechanism that holds your foot to the pedal.
