I wish you the best of luck. If you talked to someone and they said you will be OK with the notarized letter then hopefully they are right. I have only cruised on Carnival so far and they are pretty clear that you must have the original or a state issued copy sent over with a raised seal.

Not to worry you but one thing cruise lines are notorious for is giving out wrong information. So just because one person said you will be OK doesn't mean that is what the next person will say. Ultimately, it only matters what the person at the terminal says. If they say "no" then demand to speak to someone else and generally keep demanding a higher up until hopefully they relent.

Why don't you go online and order a copy of your BC right now? I know it wont matter one bit for this cruise but at least you will have it in the future.

Let us know how it goes and enjoy the cruise if you can get on the boat. Is there a plan in place if you can't get on? Will the rest of the family be able to go? That's a ton of money to lose if no one can go.

Yes, the rest of the family will go.

My copy now has a raised seal of True Copy notary.

Update: just talked to someone who works at customs in the cruise terminal. Friend of a friend, said I would be fine. They are most concerned with a photo ID.

damn glad to hear this, man...enjoy your trip!...

Put your booze in shampoo bottles.

last few cruises I went on they didn't check anything at all in customs just let us pass, Carnival themselves will want to check the certificate and they want an original, but an original copy may be fine. You can get a certificate same day in most cases.

Getting on the boat isn't a big deal at NOLA. It's when you go out for an excursion and you have to go through customs in Mexico to get back on the boat.

All you need on NCL is your room key to get back on.

That's not true. You only use your ship card at the ports. You only need BC or passport during embarking and disembarking in New Orleans.
