Am I going on a cruise tomorrow? I have a few other forms of ID as well.

If it's Carnival, you only need birth certificate and driver's license.

I think it use to be there just strongly advised you to have your passport but I am pretty sure it is required that you have a passport now.

I am almost positive you need one to get off the boat at ports now.

I would call the company to double check.

I doubt you're going. You don't need a passport, you can use a driver's license AND an ORIGINAL birth certificate. Not a photocopy.

I am guessing, but I think they will probably let you cruise...

one word of warning...if you get off the boat at any ports, be damn sure you get back on the boat when it is time to leave...without a passport, you will play hell getting back into the country if you have to fly home.

I don't ever remember needing a birth certificate, but I did have my passport.

As long as it's a closed loop cruise, you only need a birth certificate. Obviously if you used your passport, you won't need the BC.

I thought a copy would suffice and I made a huge mistake by not double checking. Effectively ruining my family vacation.

So all I have is my DL and a photo copy of my BC. I also have an state issued Insurance license that is photo ID.

Closed loop Caribbean cruises need an original raised seal birth certificate. You can get off the ship at all the ports with it as well. Check out your cruise lines website. I'm sure it will state excactly what you need.

If you are cruising out of New Orleans, you may be able to work something out by going to the passport office...likely not gonna get it done in time to get on the boat, though...

Years ago they let me go with a faxed copy of my birth certificate. It was specified they needed original but they let it slide. Things are a lot tighter now, but if all I had was a photo BC, I'd try it. The worse they can say is no.

It's not about ID. You're providing proof of citizenship.

According to the OT, you won't be missing much anyway.

I have not read all the responses. Has anyone suggested watching Midnight Express?

Per the Carnival website

quote:

Birth Certification Information
The following are acceptable:
An original birth certificate issued by a Government Agency (State/County/City) or the Department of Health and Vital Statistics
A copy of a birth certificate issued by a Government Agency (State/County/City) or the Department of Health and Vital Statistics
A clear, legible, quality Xerox copy of a birth certificate that was originally issued by a Government Agency (State/County/City) or the Department of Health and Vital Statistics. The Xerox copy does not need to be notarized or certified.

LINK

So you might still be ok. I would get there super early though tomorrow. Also...you should try calling Carnival today just to verify. Good luck, hope it works out for you.
