I sense you are bringing personal emotions into the relationship/scenario, and this is clouding your judgement. Also it seems you feel somewhat ignored or under appreciated by your company somehow related to this new leader. Ego has caused many strong men to make rush decisions they may not have made with rational thought.

If you can maintain your current lifestyle and you truest have a rewarding job definitely 100% lined up, then that is your answer.
Remember this,

Why are you only looking at 2 options?
How bout a 3rd.....could you not stay at your current job temporarily while you actively search for other options?
Percentage wise how much is a 10 k pay loss?
What is the difference in cost of living where you live and where you will be moving too?
With the pay loss and change in cost of living what will be the quality of life for your family?

Work is 40 to 50 hours a week.
Sleep is about 50 hours a week.
There are 68 to 78 other hours in a week.
Consider your family and friends. You can always make new friends, but you can't change your family.
I've had similar thoughts in the past, but it always came down to not wanting to move away for reasons outside of work.
I don't know how big and close your family is but consider them in your decision and do what is best for you.
Work to live - not the other way around.

My wife is absolutely sold. She loves the new job.

It's nearly a $10,000 pay cut as well.
If they really want you, they could recruit you even heavier.
How have negotiations been?

So true. Lots of wisdom in your comment. I definitely have lots of emotion invested in this. Truly hard to figure out if this is a knee jerk situation but I've been feeling the tension since he began here over a year ago.
For context, he reminds me so much of Walter Mitty's boss if you've ever seen the secret life of Walter Mitty. Yikes.

I regret not moving to Utah when I had the chance 15 years ago... But I like cold weather and skiing.

Truth be told, I've said 'No' to nearly 10 other competitors trying to recruit us. I've narrowed it down to these two specific options.

What does your wife do/where does she work?
Otherwise, sounds like the decision to move is a good one.
EDIT: Just read your wife is sold. Do it.

It sounds like you already know what you want to do. Go for it....

A 10k loss is significant. I am not an OT baller and am make around 70k. They offered 60k with 401k matching, great benefits, etc.
It is nearly 12 hours from our family. Not close to mine really, but my wife is close to hers. This is a significant factor. I want my kids to know their grandparents.

Take the pay cut and go be miserable AND alone.

If you don't care about/don't have close family nearby, leave. Go to Colorado.

very, very important.
Your immediate 10K loss is quite significant, but what do short and medium term look like?
Health insurance 100%?
What about your vehicle?
Do they have a relocation allocation?
Posted on 10/21/15 at 10:32 pm to Dandy Lion
They will pay $3500 worth of relocation fees.
The organization also has communicated to me that they want me to be rested, healthy, and refreshed. They know I've had a hard run over here so they have offered that I bring the family up on December 1st to move in and take the month off to relax. They said I can begin Jan 1 but will pay for our month of restoration. Pretty thoughtful and it just expresses so much concern to me that they care enough about my well being to offer that sort of thing.

What about benefits, relocation, bonuses, 401k matching, etc.?
CO had state income tax, TX does not, so that will also factor into your financial decision.
Have you negotiated a final salary figure? If not, then ask for somewhere between 5-8% more than what you make now, as that's a standard bump.
What part of Texas are you in? How much more expensive will your cost of living be in CO?
You can write the move off on your taxes, unless you get reimbursed.
That's all I've got...

Here is where I give you advice I am extremely confident in despite knowing nowhere near enough about your situation...
Just kidding, nobody here knows enough to tell you what to do. If you want validation for the way you are leaning, then whatever way that is is probably right. Trust your gut.
I will say that the joy you get from work should always come from you. If you are as awesome at your current job as you say you are, that should be a pretty big deal.

I don´t know what to say, really. You sound comfortable with them, again, growth potential is something to consider with such a move.
Other than that, on the surface, it sounds as if they are somewhat thoughtful of your situation, and again, you sound comfortable.

CS is my least favorite town in Colorado. HQ for several religious right organizations, so there's a heavy fundy vibe. But it's still in CO, and CO > TX. $10k is a hefty paycut. I would probably still go if I were you.
