Story

Youtube video where altercation begins

quote:

The video showing an officer pointing his gun toward the man has sparked public outrage, forcing the Public Safety Department to cancel a planned “Coffee with a Cop” gathering after police said several people intended to “cause a disturbance, potentially putting our community and citizens at risk.” Editor Davan Maharaj delivers the day's top headlines >> Don McComas said he was in front of his home and hooking his boat to a trailer when he saw the officer drive into his neighborhood. The officer, he said, made a few turns and stopped to face McComas. The officer did nothing but point at McComas and his home, McComas said. McComas became concerned, so he pulled out his cellphone camera and started filming.

An independent, outside investigator will be hired to conduct a full investigation into the video involving an Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety officer and a resident “to ensure the greatest degree of impartiality and fairness,” city officials said.

When did this start? And what are they talking about, a PI?

Jeez, it is pretty scary that the cop pulled his weapon like that in the middle of a neighborhood.

On the video, McComas moves in closer to record the license plate number on the officer’s vehicle. The officer gets out of the SUV and tells McComas to take his hand out of his pocket.

McComas replies: “No sir, I’ve done nothing. I have done absolutely nothing. No.”

this is dumb.

listen to vid and watch the YT.

The guy had his hand in his pocket.

I don't know why the cop was filing him to start with, but he should've let the cop see his hands.

Why? The guy is in his own front yard. We don't live in a police state.

cop is in deep shite. I'd usaually side with you on things like this but it's the very altercation that has me pissed at the cop. You can't just come out with your weapon drawn on someone standing in their driveway videoing. That's just insanity.

The cop had no reason to be there, much less tell him to take his hand out of his pocket or anything else. Yes, he should have followed the stupid 'order' since he was dealing with a typical moronic cop. I guess what you're saying is that when dealing with a cop, it's best to assume he's an idiot with a gun, so do what he says, regardless of how stupid the 'order' is. In this I'd have to agree.

Uh no. The cop pulled out his gun because the dipshit didn't take his hand out of his pocket so the cop could see he didn't have a weapon.

I watched the video. It sounds like there is a history between this guy and the police department.

However, the cop just can't pull up to his house, get out of the car, and unholster his weapon like that. It is dangerous and leads to stuff like what happened in Cincinnati with the university cop.

So making sure someone doesn't have a weapon on them isn't reason enough? I disagree

Guy should have just complied if he had nothing to hide. This is what happens when you don't do as you're told by the popo.

The cop was filming him first. (weird)

Then, when he started moving towards the cop's car filming the cop, the cop gets out.

My point is the resident walked up to the cop vehicle w/ his hand concealed in his pocket. The cop (I think) drew his gun and told the guy, "let me see your hand".

There is way more to this per the news video, they have some back story here.

To avoid possibly getting shot, the guy should've took his hand out of his pocket. I have no idea why the cop was effing' w/ him to start with, but who wants to get shot proving a point?

Well when you approach someone and they start screaming and backing away from you when you simply asked them to remove their hand from their pocket, wouldn't that make you a little on edge?

Exactly. The cop should be able to verify the guy didn't have a weapon- even on his own property. This was a few seconds away from being an exigent circumstances.
