So a cop pulls me over for speeding when I'm not over the limit and I can't question the accuracy of his assertion and just have to take the ticket?

Yep. That's assuming you don't get pulled out of car and beaten, then charged with felony resisting while your two children watch crying in the car.

I honestly don't want to live in a country where tax paying citizens can be assaulted, wrongfully arrested or murdered for disrespecting some dude who got all Cs in high school and had few friends.

I have always wanted to move to Scotland, low crime rate, beautiful scenery, nice people...

What causes some posters to just assume the cop's actions were justified? What would the rest of the video have shown? That the fat mom was mouthy? So now we're ok with everyone who is a dick or a bitch being arrested and beaten?

Well clearly if the cop is throwing punches, the poor shmuck on the receiving end is a criminal. Cops don't punch people randomly. Relax, they even investigate themselves, and like all other cases will be found with no wrongdoing. You should have faith in the system.

cops are TRAINED to do this. they are told that if the situation starts to escalate and they dont know if the person is drunk, high or getting ready to reach for a gun, knife or baseball bat as they become increasingly agitated..they do what they need to do to neutralize the situation.

i see no problem with that.

eta there are probably just as many videos out there of cops who were too "nice" and ended up getting shot or run over.

a cop NEVER knows what is going to happen when he pulls over a person driving erratically.

So you're OK with it. Got it.

let me know how that strategy works out for you.

I'm not disagreeing that arguing with a cop is a bad idea. I don't do it b/c it's not worth the potential outcome (plus I'm a clean cut white male who drives a nice car - not really a target for cop abuse). But the fact that we've created a class of people that cannot be questioned for fear of arrest, assault or death is just messed up. Would you be ok with granting this same all-encompassing authority to other professions? Would it be cool if you could be arrested for arguing with a customer service rep?

i'm more ok with this than neutering cops so crimminals no longer fear them.

They bust arse when a motorcycle cop calls in for backup.

she was punched once in the face for resisting arrest.

and are you ok with this? they can just wail on you, rather than use the techniques they were taught to get you in restraints?

The DA dismissed any resisting charges, and the totally made up felony assault charges they tried to give her. Again, lucky she had that video or she's in jail right now.

This. I have been overly polite in my few encounters with the police, and I have police in my family, but the mentality shown by people on this board (many of whom no doubt consider themselves patriotic conservative Americans) makes me realize how easily an overbearing totalitarian government can be established.

Where did I say they did that? However, I doubt she was getting out on her own. He should have handed over the ticket and peaced out.

A better question may be, Why do I see the majority of the stories in the British press? You would never see most of these because the lazy leftist American press won't get off their arse and cover stuff like this unless it involves some celebrity

whats your middle ground?

size up the person you just pulled over and make a snap judgement if they are dangerous or not before you decide to let them berate you or disobey your request to hand over their license?

i'm not sure how a cop is supposed to know someone isn't hiding a weapon when they turn aggressive for a routine stop.

Great question. All I know is that whatever story they made up was thrown out and all charges against her dropped when the video was made available.

There was a prior run-in between the woman and the cop, supposedly he was pissy when she asked why they were there with their sirens and lights blaring.

Common sense would usually say a woman with her 2 kids in the car isn't pulling a gun on the cop. Her kids were in the car crying for her the whole time this was going down.

sounds like you are eating her story of how it went down.

how's it taste?
