You have to really frick up a cold call to not get the name of the receptionist to whom you spoke.

Yes. It actually works to where if they call the number back it won't ring to your phone but the actual number you put in to fake.

That is a surefire fricking way to ensure that I'll never buy anything from you, especially if you didn't even bring any fricking kolaches in the first place.

I called on PMs and VPs of General Contractors for many years. I never cold called a firm whose business I was trying to earn. If they were known as MY customer in the market, meaning I got over 80% of their work, I would drop by and see whoever was not to busy if I was in the area. The most notable GC in Atlanta allowed me to bypass the lobby receptionist and go straight to the 2nd or 3rd floor where all the PM offices were located. It took me several years to earn that privilege and I knew better in the courting phase than to show up without an appointment. You sound lazy and annoying to be honest. Timing and courtesy are fundamental in sales if you want to be considered a professional in your field. People do not like to be cold called. Nothing is more offensive then someone not understanding the value of someone's time. This receptionist has to ward off your unprofessional types several times a day and she does not care to entertain you with small talk.

I was a copier sales rep for two miserable years. I was the most hated dude on the face of the office-environment-planet.

Unfortunatly that's now how every sales process works. In my line of work I cold call everyday and wouldn't make it if I didn't. I'm one and done, no relationship once the sale is complete.

You have to make them see a reason to buy. Book the appointment with the decision maker and show them why your widget is better than what they are doing. You cans sell on price, quality, soft cost, hard cost, convenience, etc. just have to find out their buying motives once you are in the appointment.
