You’d have to really hate taxes lol

Or hate paying $400/oz.

Good for them. Maybe one day we'll get out of the dark ages.

Don’t hold your breath! As long as Louisiana is run by bible thumping conservatives, I just don’t see it happening ever.

But God made marijuana.
Also people have been consuming marijuana for thousands of years, most in a spiritual manner.

I know they were having issues with people going to their dealers, because the state shite was super expensive. Did they ever fix the market?

Lulz. Tell us how y’all in the NW solved your homeless problem and while you’re at it tell us how you solved your heroin problem.

Uh, they haven't. Did I say they did?

Eta....they don't do anything about them. I wish they threw some money at them and put an on a bus for Seattle.

Sad we are willing to sell out our morals for the dollar and a quick high. Broken families, welfare queens, overweight, drug heads. All that makes up this country anymore. Satan continues to do his work, God will judge this nation harshly one day. Sad how far we have fallen

Yeah, because Louisiana is such a beacon for high morals due to our close minded thinking.

Probably because when people in his day and age drank water they diarrhea'd themselves to death.

Already been pointed out but top shelf illegal weed is cheaper than top shelf legal weed.

It's simple math.

I can pay 80 for amazing shite illegally or pay 80 for last years outdoor crop legally.

What's the penalty for selling weed illegally now that its taxed? I gotta feel like its a pretty big fine? Similar to selling alcohol without sales tax or a license?

Or you could just grow your own legally in Colorado. Up to 6 plants. No middle man.

It certainly isnt a substitute dollar for dollar. The Mary Jane is taxed at a much higher rate than typical grocery items.

And on a side note to another comment about "how far we have fallen". We here this every generation. As if at some point earlier we were a bastion of high morality. Yeah the good ol days when black men were hung in trees and alter boys were molested by clergy.

I don't know but I doubt it's a huge number.

Doesn't matter, the state isn't going after small timers.

It's literally something I don't worry about.

Not everyone has a green thumb or the initial money to start an indoor grow which isn't cheap.

I don't grow. I'm not around all the time to care for my buds. I just support local gardens.

You lost me.

How many people out of that 1 billion in taxes are substituting grocery items for weed because of prices increases? The substitution effect in a nut shell is when your preferred detergent goes up in price so you try a cheaper brand.

Every dollar spent on mj is a dollar not spent elsewhere, so the billion dollars in revenue doesn’t represent an actual gain in a billion dollars for the state, it just means the state lost a billion dollars in sales tax revenue in other industries which is now being spent in mj shops.

We call this substitution effect in economics

Even if the payment is redirected from one product to another, the fact that the product is worth forgoing something else is what makes it marketable.

Everything that's not a neccisity in life can ideally be called a substitute. Do I lower my CC Payment to put more down on my car? Do I go out to buy more groceries in lieu of eating at the new buffet restaurant, etc.?

And as stated, over half of that incine is probably OUT OF STATE purchases from places where the product is illegal. Just like how Amazon primarily became a juggernaut by selling products to people in places where that product may be not ne sold/short supply.

I would think many of the people who are buying now legal Mary were buying prior to and had that already as a budget line item. I bet a large degree of that billion is not money taken from somewhere else.

This is the dilemma between conservative principles and evangelicals. At some point (like you mentioned) the conservative economic approach of free market capitalism will and has conflicted with Evangelical teaching.

Nostalgia also makes people believe things are better than what they really were. I sure dont wish to have to run to an outhouse everything to urinate.
