Salmon's reply.

OK, fair enough for you. But would you SUPPORT it, not just ignore it? And be as honest as you can, do you believe that the black community would support it? I'm talking about black leadership? Media? Do you believe it wouldn't be a national issue?

MTV wouldn't even play black music videos. This is what birth BET.

Wrong.

For example, videos from Michael Jackson were "world premier"'d on MTV. They were huge, huge, events. If you want to blame anyone for fewer videos from black performers on MTV in the early days, blame black performers. They didn't make videos or embrace the concept of having to go shoot a video to promote your music.

Search for videos from the biggest names in music that were black. They were few an far between, whereas most every worthless US and British pop/electric/progressive/onehitwonder groups out there were making videos concomitant with their music recording.

MTV can't play what doesn't exist.

I think you missed what he said. There was no "for the most part" in it.

Let me refresh your memory:

Every show on TV caters to the white race.

If you believe that he was absolutely right, then I'll just say it, I believe you're a racist.

I'm sure I'll get backlash for point this out. But it's not just a black and white issue. Aziz Ansari points out in his new series "Master of None" how difficult it is for Indians and Asians to get roles in mainstream media.

I would watch if the programs were worth watching.

Nope, not a chance in hell.

Nope, I think it would be. Bakeries refusing to back a cake for a gay couple becomes a national issue, creating a White Entertainment Television certainly would too.

I mean if I was a black kid growing up I prolly would have wanted BET. I would have had one show to watch with a Black family( Family Matters)while my honky friends got to watch dozens

The right wing really likes to dig up minorities who agree with their politics.

Good money to be made by prominent Blacks from this demographic says Hermain Cain , Ben Carson, Dash ,etc.......

You can do better than that. Come on, let the racial epithets fly man. Let us see the hate.

And if you think he literally meant every single one, I believe you are being dense. 99% would still be accurate. Which alone makes BET a viable network IMHO

Oh really? Because a few white/latino people get an award every once in awhile the BET awards arent racist. So youre saying that the BET awards are awarded out to only 13% black people then right? That's what the law of averages say.

I didnt think so.

Also, I dont think it is racist at all that most shows are geared towards white people. It makes sense. We are the majority so going after the majority audience makes sense. However, white people making a big deal out of BET is odd to me. They saw that the black community had very few shows that they could relate to, so they capitalized on it and made a network. Good for capitalism

I don't have cable or satellite anymore. But if we're speaking in the same sense as BET. I'd more than likely bypass it and think nothing of the channel. I mean clearly Mad Men would be on WET. So I'd probably tune in for reruns.

I'm sure certain black leaders, media and some in community would be upset. But with anything in this country. People would move on to the next story.

I don't think the majority of white people care

its usually just in retaliation from being called racists when it is brought up

BET is a channel that caters to a certain viewer that enjoys that brand of programming. What's the problem?

So do the Academy Awards, which is why Tyler Perry, Kevin Hart or Ice Cube wont be winning an Oscar anytime soon. Can we say the same for BET?

Of the 22 main awards the BET handed out last year, 2 went to white people - Sam Smith and Ed Burke.
