It's possible stuff doesn't make your DD214. I Had Some Stuff Missing (Nothing Like A SS though) but didn't feel like arguing with them about arcoms so they didn't make the dd214.

Is it possible for a commander to put his name up for an additional SS or whatever that wasn't processed or what ever? This happened in Vietnam to a lot of guys, like I've heard medals were downgraded or just not put through for political reasons towards the end. I'm not defending anybody inflating their record just generally asking the question

General.

That's what he told me anyway.

Stop struggling and post on Facebook. Nobody is taking away from anyone's accomplishments but a lie is a lie and he has been caught in several. Why do you hate the truth?

It's also been recently released that special ops members have been awarded and it's not public because of the sensitivity of the mission/classified records.

However, all awards should be documented on the service members DD-214.

I struggle to understand the ways of the OT, i.e. how this and other posts in this thread don't have infinity downvotes. I can tell you that there is a very real chance that what he received and what is reflected in his official record have discrepancies. Beyond that, why are there anti-seal posts? Even if he did (and that is an if) embellish, what he did for our country cannot be fully encompassed by ribbons and medals. Just some food for thought.

The dude straight up lied about numerous things. He was a human who lied who happened to be in the military and do some pretty incredible things while serving.

We don't have to shite on what he actually did while exposing his lies. We don't have to accept him as a pious figure either.

People of all types of character have jobs in various fields. Being in the military doesn't change that.

He also lied about shooting people on the top of the Superdome and killing an armed robber

Chris Kyle did great things and for that we should be thankful, but he also was a pathological liar it seems who loved attention

I don't hate the truth. But I couldn't care less about the difference of 1 silver, 3 bronze rather than 2 silver, 5 bronze. It's basically sitting hairs. Hasn't he earned the benefit of the doubt before being raked over the coals?

Dude obviously knew some deep shite he shouldn't have known for the MIC to not only take him out but smear his name after death

If that was the only thing that he had lied about then people probably wouldn't be "sitting hairs"

No, because he lied about more than just his medals.

As others mentioned, war time can be a bit messy for processing awards. I'd like to get an account from his unit. My guess is that it was awarded to him and but never turned over appropriately. I was an XO for a unit deployed and it was a pain. But the guys deserved them and was certainly worth it to make sure they were fully processed.

Impressive. First the board discredits the earned accomplishment of a WP graduate and now a war hero's integrity is called into question. Arm chair warriors, the best.

One of the reasons I don't get why he's celebrated so much. Not trying to take away from the amazing things he actually did, and the very sad and terrible circumstances of his death. But he blatantly lies about so many things. I don't understand that more people don't question his character. I mean again, I see how that's tough to criticize since he died and definitely did have an amazing military record despite the fabrications. But still...

I enjoyed the movie, I got a freedom boner and cry but I do agree with you. From personal stories I've read he seemed a bit off... especially bragging about killing people in NOLA after Katrina, that was just odd - and the fact that it never happened makes it even weirder.

The guy did some brave things.

He also said he killed a guy at a gas station and the cops "took care of it" for him.

I mean, c'mon.

The killing people from the top of the super dome, the killing of carjacking, the fight with Jesse Ventura. All of which no one can remotely verify a shred of truth. It's not just about the medals. And I bet a lot of guys in the military really respect those medals, so lying about them even if you already have one probably doesn't sit well. I know they'd be passed if I lied and said I had one. I mean what's the difference between 0 and 1. Iso that just splitting hairs?
