Anyone who requires you to go regularly to keep your spine in "alignment" is an absolute quack and preying on ignorance. I ask anyone who has gone to a chiro for an extended period of time why are they still needing to go to maintain the status quo?
Lots of long term joint damage to your facet joints from significant manipulations which result in even more chronic pain down the line.
Who do you think is more likely to "throw themselves out" the guy who has been getting his facet joints thrusted on a regular basis or the person who has been mobilized for specific facet immobility if needed and then worked to strengthen the deep stabilizing musculature of the spine?
Getting "adjusted" by a chiro is often the very opposite of what needs to occur for their patients. But it's a hell of a quick fix for an hour or two, and a great marketing scheme they are running.

I go there 3x a week. I hate when he snaps my neck. I can't help but think of all those Hollywood death scenes where someone's neck gets snapped.

Well that and some just want more money.

The guy that I go to is not a typical chiro. He doesn't do x-rays or any of that stuff. It's a very simple operation. He's got a table that you lie face down on, and he has an orthopedic adjusting instrument (I think that's what he calls it) that he uses to tap the vertebrae back into alignment.

Today he adjusted my neck for the first time ever, though.
Holy Mother of God.
There was a split second there when I was convinced he just snapped my neck. Not a fan.
Probably because there are reports out there that state that those neck manipulations can result in torn neck arteries and death. Look it up.

Everyone's spine falls out of alignment(gets sublaxated) by doing normal, everyday things. The problem is, when you don't get the sublaxations adjusted, your spine compensates for it elsewhere, and it can eventually lead to long-term problems.

Tell that to the thousands of pro athletes who use chiros, just about every major pro team has them on staff.

Go to a chiropractor? LOL no.

And someone I know that was in their 30's had a mini stroke because of this!

Had a roommate who applied to both medical school (real one, not chiropractic) and PT school and didn't get interviews to either. This happened several semesters in a row, he had bad grades and nothing else on his resume experience-wise. Got into chiro school on his first try!
All chiro schools are private schools that charge an arm and a leg. The schools are a huge scam. Got another buddy who is like 200k in the hole from tuition for 4 year chiro program and who makes about 30-40k a year. Has to go to shopping malls and set up booths and shite to try to recruit patients. He hates it, says he feels humiliated and like he is trying to "sell" people on them having pain and needing adjustments. I would NEVER go to one. I've seen too many studies where they link cervical manipulation to CVA (stroke) in otherwise young, healthy people.

Lots of chiropractor hate up in here. I'm a former power lifter, I have battled bad back pain since I have quit competing. After going to MD's for years with no real fix (just prescription after prescription of pain pills) I finally decided to try a chiropractor. I went 2 or 3 times a week for 6 months and now only get adjusted when needed, about once every 6 months. It was a big help for me

No kidding. I love it when people say stupid stuff like "chiropractors aren't quacks/con artists, I go to mine three times a week!" Lol, that's the fricking point, to keep you coming back -- and paying -- on a regular basis.
My brother is a radiologist, and he has a saying that there's no such thing as an adjustment or realignment of the spine, and if that happens, you're paralyzed or dead.

Lots of territorial pissing in here. The chiro fans, the MD's, and PTs are all represented.
If it works for you it works. Going multiple times weekly is excessive. But all can be bashed. Pain management and ortho guys who just do steroid injections or pills.
PT is not above reproach either. They use many similar techniques to chiro. They work toward alignment as well.

Same here I used to compete. Would like to again someday. Like any other professional you just have to do your homework and find the best one.

I'm a little skeptical but don't knock others that do it. If it works for you great - I just hope it isn't causing more damage and requiring life-long chiro treatment.
I do have a major problem with chiropractors that suddenly decide they want to do their "manipulations" on pets (usually dogs). I have reported a number of these people to the state boards for illegal practice of vet medicine. A close friend of mine had her dog injured by some quack that decided to start doing this.

No medical school in the country has a chiro program.
If you research any of the common things they do or tools they use, you will find no medical journals or clinical trials to support their claims.
They essentially have created an 'educational system' of institutions and licensing board outside of all mainstream medical realms to call themselves doctors (very scary) and concoct resolutions in a continual search for 'problems' to apply them to, all for a nominal fee of course!
Signed,
Not an md, physio, or jilted former patient

Well my brother is a better radiologist than your brother and he said that...

Read Me
Hardly any research behind chiropractic. It's not traditional medicine. Even the research that has been done would be rated as poor in quality by any analysis team.
IE: placebo effect from hearing the pop/ crack.

St Augustine,
My thoughts on the matter are that repetitive grade 5 mobs to joints would lead to an instability.
Regardless of if it's a PT, chiro, or osteopath doing the technique. There is a fine line between mobility and stability. Focusing on too much of either one will lead to a functional impairment.
