More or less, I mean they have changed some as the project has moved out of schematic design, but all the core elements are still there.

No, they will spin it, when you call them out.

shite is getting bad in many cities, BR is on par with St.Louis when it comes to stupidity by it's elected officials.

Our Alderpeople want to make rules when police can use tear gas and when they can use force. They have cut the cops nuts off and these assholes continue to rpotest, every night.

F'in Washington U, Liberal East Coast kids stirring shite up.

No matter how long they have had power, they will continue to blame Whitey. It's from the playbook.

That Mayor of that Mississippi City who literally wants to have an All-Black state, will run for 12 years, get nothing done, line his pockets and then blame Whitey while on the way out of power.

Sorry to butt-in. I'm out of the loop on this one. Real quick, can someone here explain to me how white people are responsible for black men abandoning their children? Thanks.

White men invented government to oppress women and people of color. Therefore it's whitey's fault.

What has changed in the last 35 years on NBR to make it such a bad part of town?

I was born in ‘80 and moved away from that area in ‘87. We lived in Monticello at the time, my parents owned a daycare (thats now been torn down for a family dollar/dollar general type place) with over 60 kids, and life was great. I know what really hurt that area at the time was when Ethel shut down. Our daycare quickly lost a shite ton of kids, and people were moving out of the subdivision in droves. It wasn't long after that the Superstore shut down.

The make up of cities and towns are always changing based on where the work is, where good schools exist (hence so many people leaving BR), and where it is safe to raise a family. I guarantee that if crime were to start skyrocketing in South BR, youd see jousing prices drop and families moving faster than they are now.

Agreed. You can do the same thing with poor communities. Google the top poorest cities, communities and look what political parry represents them.

I can remember the days when NBR was a vibrant, predominantly white, working class part of town with very little crime. My Dad grew up on Pocahontas Street and lived on Scenic Highway when he was drafted into WW2 after graduating from Istrouma High School, which was overwhelmingly white when I was in high school in the '70's. What has changed in the last 35 years on NBR to make it such a bad part of town?

How old are most of you. I am going to assume 50+ like my parents.

I agree that the younger generation of Blacks need to build off of what their parents built. But do I honestly (a young guy) have to point out governmental segregation played a role in housing and working locations pre-1970s.

I am not saying anybody is racist, rather you (and many of the posters here) have nostalgia.

I am not originally from Baton Rouge, so I dont know how the job market is divided out between the South and Northern parts of the city. I do know that every city and town has poor areas. The difference is that poor whites tend to be in villages white minorities tend to be in cities.

"Looking at the past with rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia can sometimes be a blindfold for present problems"

Not one Parish is on that top 100 list so what’s your point about Baton Rouge?

Believe it or not.

I agree with you.

The best solution would be to force the NBR to meet a set of demands.

1) if you desire contributions, you must show that the area can produce at least 30% of proposed donation.

2) you must provide a detailed plan regarding how the funds will be spent and provide proof of purchase regarding services rendered to an assigned review board under SBR jurisdiction.

3) you will be assigned a specific timeline for completion of all services rendered. Failure to meet timeline will mean termination of future funding and other demerits as outlined by the contract.

4) proof of employment and other means by which persons are employed should be cataloged. The number of employees and their assigned responsibilities should be provided in a detailed report to the SBR.

I could go on, but you get the idea. Honestly, I'm thinking of running for mayor or city council when I'm older

You seem like a pretty intelligent, normal person.

You'd never win. All the hardcore govt tit sucklers would just scream uncle Tom at you.

Plus in your previous post you stated that in order for NBR to receive financial help they would need to meet certain qualifiers.

That is polar opposite of what most of these loud mouths want.

They want a blank check with no oversight and no stipulations. Then they want to be able to distribute said check to whomever they deem as "helping the community"

Anything less than that will be seen as racist.

The older generations of blacks that fought for what the younger ones have now would be mortified by how little they have done with their opportunity and how they are now seemingly lazier and in more of a hand out do nothing situation

We need city leaders, particularly a mayor that is not trying to serve ALL the people in Baton Rouge equally.

I doubt she wants to get into a discussion about where tax revenue in city originates. Taxing one group and then failing to address them is a surefire way to motivate them to leave.

If you're trying to hold people accountable, you can forget getting elected to office in a Democrat machine district. That's not how it works

It is sad after renting to people in NBR I do not want to do it anymore. A couple friends who I knew from California bought a few apartments in the N Ardenwood area.

I remember when that was a safe area with Globe, Sears, and K marr back in the 70's.

Now when I visit them a few years back it was similar to a war zone.
My friends ended up selling and lost their butts on those deals.. They said the culture is more like animals compared to the civilized people they rent to in California.
