This may help reduce the overcrowding of the classrooms.

My relatives in Central got a little under a foot in their house. No insurance. They both work in Baton Rouge and their kids attend school locally. They can't afford NOT to make repairs - and they have already gotten started.
Less than a foot of water =/= 4-6 feet that a lot of central got.

I live in Central and I'm one of the few that got no water in my house.

neighborhood was spared as a whole, still damage though. I was fortunate water stopped at my slab.
I live in Woodstock and mine is for sale. Lot of pucker factor for a few days until I was able to get back to find no water got in. Someone said they counted 37 homes in our subdivision that flooded.

I was 1' (vertical) away from getting water. 75%-80% of subdivision got flooded.

Lucky for Central, most of their resident's employment sources were not impacted. Life will return to normal for them.
quote:I wouldn't consider having to sell your home for pennies on the dollar when you owe a couple hundred grand getting things "back to normal"
The fact that the employment centers are still there and the area just lost a bunch of inventory means that those houses will be getting repaired one way or another.....and pretty quickly. They'll be repaired or put on the market for some other buyer to repair and flip.

No, it's not. Actually most of central was just rezoned in the last month or so to be OUT of a flood zone.

Central will rebuild, and rebuild fast.
Sid Edwards got this.

And from what I'm hearing from friends and family, there's not much help coming from FEMA.
Inspectors are coming in and basically saying everything can be saved regardless of if it's wet or not.
One of my family friends had a FEMA inspector/adjuster come to their house that got a foot of water and gave them $0. Pretty shitty.

Sid will bail fast especially if his good athletes transfer out.

The neighborhood I grew up in was hit hard too. I am pretty sure every house from Fla. blvd down Ponderosa to Old Hammond Hwy flooded. I don't know how many of those people have flood insurance

Did that area flood in 83?

Well it didn't help that he sent out letters to many Central residents just two months prior to the flood stating that they were no longer in a flood zone and could contact their flood insurance companies about dropping it. I know he wasn't the one who rezoned much of Central but from what I understand he was a huge proponent of rezoning. Terrible timing for those letters to go out just before this flood.
I finally made it back into the office today and this tab was open.
Wondering if I should check into it and see if they'll just wave my deductable.

Northwoods is rebuilding pretty well so far. Great neighbors around here helping each other out.
FEMA money + SBA loan are going to take care of my damage and losses, but only because I didn't get 4+ feet and I'm not using contractors.

I guess we can thank some of our lovely neighbors to the south that exploited the system during Katrina for this extreme level of scrutiny.
Last I heard, they're still trying to track down all of the fraudulent claimants 11 years later.

Did your house flood? I don't know which part you live in but our receptionist just moved into a rent house that didn't get flooded in Northwoods.
