If you pay more than $60/month for unlimited everything you're a chump.

Seems like some here know what they're talking about in regards to this issue. My wife and I are currently shopping for a shared plan. I have my own plan but my wife is still on her parents. We both have iphone 4s'. We live in Gonzales, I work in BR and she works in Gonzales but travels to surrounding parishes a few times a month. We aren't the type to run out and get new phones every year. Here's my question(s). What's our best option for a shared plan? AT&T, Verizon, t-mobile? We want to get an iPad for this plan as well. Should we wait for the iPhone 6 to come out? And at that time how will that affect our bill? Just looking for the best option that will save us money. Btw, were probably average data users.

Does your wife have to get off of her parents plan?

If you are both happy with your devices I don't see the need to change up your plans.

Who are you currently with?

Well yes considering her parents still pay for hers. They want her off lol

I'm with att. She's with Verizon.

Is it just me, or does that Verizon plan look weak compared to what CSpire offers?

Wonder if CSpire will modify rate plans now to compete with AT&T, too.

I have a friend who up until recently, stayed on his folks plan for years after he moved out. You never know with some parents

Since your wife is on verizon, I'm pretty sure she'd have to get another phone to work on T-mobiles network (yours will work on it). Something extra to think about.

Since you commute and she travels, you might want to stick with AT&T or Verizon so you can get the best coverage anyway. I'm with AT&T but in my area Verizon is more consistent (fewer dead/weak signal areas). But I really like being able to use data and talk at the same time. Last I checked you still can't do that with Verizon.

If you are going to do a two year contract, I would wait until you are both ready to get a new phone (or close to that) before making the switch. No point in bringing phones you already own on to a plan that is subsidizing your phones.

ETA: Also, opinions are going to vary here so I would wait for a few more replies.

The first thing to do before even looking at any plan is to look at a coverage map that includes network speed. Upload, download, etc. Doesn't matter what you pay if the shite doesn't work or work well.

I used rootmetrics to compare carrier network speed where I am.

Next time you want to upgrade your phone you will have to do it through the AT&T Next program.

Not true. You have the option to do it through the Next program, or pay the subsidized price and sign a 2 yr contract.

Just confirmed this with an AT&T sales rep. I'm still waiting to hear from those jabronis who said the opposite. Those filty animals are spreading LIES

Brian: The option to purchase subsidized phones with a 2-year contract will still be offered under the new mobile share value plans? There seems to be a misconception that you are forced to move to the AT&T Next program under the mobile share value plans.
Milli: You don't have to go with the AT&T Next.
Milli: You have a choice between 2 year or the Next.

does Verizon still offer the plan buyout option when switching?

I currently hava a Sprint family plan and 1 phone was upgraded over Christmas. With all the cheaper options in AT&T and Verzion I am looking to switch (plus the fact Sprint internet is total garbage)

Sorry I left that bit of information out yesterday. There was conflicting information about whether they offer the two year contract anymore or not. If you read ATT's FAQ on the new plans no where do they mention anything about contract plans or subsidized upgrades. That is because they just don't want people on subsidies anymore. But apparently if you call and ask, they still give it to you.

Anyway I hope that the ATT rep told you that when you pick the $200 upgrade option, your monthly fees per phone goes up to $40 from $15 and you loose the $25 per month discount that is only available of you pick the 10GB and over option with NEXT? If they left that info off, they weren't being completely honest. There is always a fricking catch with these guys.

You can see how desperate ATT is to move people away from the subsidy model by making it very unattractive to customers one way or the other.

Existing AT&T customers need to watch out

With these no plans they have made the old plans defunct. Meaning of you don't have one of these new plans you won't be able to make changes to your existing plan or even upgrade your phone. They will hold you hostage with this until they get you to change your plan to one of the new ones

One of the phones on our plan has unlimited data which the new plans don't offer, I can't upgrade my old cracked phone until we agree to a new plan and get rid of the unlimited data on the one phone

So if I recently upgraded with Verizon, would they allow me to switch to a new cheaper plan if I called? I'm guessing no

bullshite.

I went into AT&T to get a better plan based on my usage and they said mine was the lowest possible for unlimited internet/text/phone.

$96.00 month. 1 line.

I told them I would be shopping, they didn't give a frick.

Yep. Got overly excited and jumped on only to immediatley juml right off after further investigating. Seems the 15 dollar per line is a promotional ploy to get people to jump ship from their old plans only to hit them for the 40 dollars per line when ready to subsidy upgrade and renew contract. Of course you could keep the 15 dollars per line by chosing the next option to upgrade which adds like 30 dollars per month to your bill for the price difference of the phone. So youre fricked for around 40 or more dollars per line no matter what. Plus the base cost of plan at around 100 or more dollars. No thanks ATT. Ill keep my current shitty plan till next year then move on.....

I would seriously tell you guys to check the coverage maps on TMob and see if it works for you. $70/month for unlimited everything and it includes hotspot. I have a $50/month unlimited (5GB at LTE speed) deal before they switched so I'm keeping that.

frick AT&T and Verizon and their ridiculously high priced plans. Verizon has the best coverage, but if TMob covers your area well, you'll save $30+ and have unlimited data.

Since I live in Hawaii, I can't really look into the even cheaper deals like Straight Talk or Net10 or whatever. Coverage is even sketchy once in a while with Tmob out here (rarely). I have thought about Verizon, but I can't wrap my head around their overcharging.

AT&T's customer service has to be one of the shittiest ever. There have been multiple times where after I changed plans with them, they were charging me "Enterprise" rates (back when I had a Blackberry) which were of course higher than personal. The charges were being added into fees on my bill.

When I realized it after 6 months or so, I went into the store. They adjusted my bill to reflect the personal price and said "sorry". They didn't offer to refund my money that I was overpaying the 6 months prior until I had to go out of my way and contact Management, etc. I hate complaining about anything honestly but my experience with their customer service has been shite.

Problem with TMobile is the data portion of their plans....it clearly states once you exceed 500MB of data, they throttle the speeds after that. 500MB ain't shite, and throttling sucks dong. It makes downloading stuff, streaming music, etc. maddening.

Besides their low data limit threshold, their plans are priced great.

ETA: Never mind. Their unlimited data (no throttling) is $120 per month for 4 phones. That's very inexpensive for 4 phones (unlimited everything).

Speaking of T-mobile, what's their coverage like in Baton Rouge?
