Cell Phone Service Price Wars have begun

AT&T has rolled out a new set of family/shared plans that are much cheaper. I'm getting the same unlimited talk/text/1GB shared data for 2 lines for $95 now instead of $130. It doesn't change your contract date or affect your upgrades, just gives you the same thing for less. If you have AT&T you should check into changing your plan.
If you have Verizon it sounds like they are reacting to this and will be rolling out cheaper plans too.

ETA: Check the FAQ of the new AT&T plan to see if it's right for you because it does change your upgrade pricing by charging more for new phones you get through AT&T. For me when I upgrade it will essentially go back to the price I was paying before.

According to our tipster, Verizon will launch so-called More Everything plans with additional data and reduced prices for Edge customers. Plans with 8GB or less of data will be discounted $10, while those with 10 gigs or more will be reduced by $20. For those unfamiliar, Edge is Verizon's trade-in and upgrade program, which lets you pay off the cost of a phone over the course of your two-year contract.
Share Everything plans will reportedly become the new More Everything plans, and they'll get a boost in data caps in the process. Those plans will also allow for unlimited messaging to anywhere in the world from the US. Finally, More Everything plans will apparently include 25GB of free cloud storage. We're hardly the first to say it, but it certainly looks like the carrier is feeling the heat from T-Mobile and others competing for customers with increasingly ambitious offers. We'll have #More details on the announcement tomorrow, so keep an eye out!

I get the feeling that Verizon is once again going to leave their long-term customers, the grandfathered unlimited users, out to dry here.

It's about time the free market did it's job.
They had people locked up in contracts making competition very difficult when you upgrade phones and have to re-new a 2 year.
Hopefully the trend continues.
Now cable needs to break it's monopoly and let people buy individual channels and all will be right.

Our contract ends in March. We're going to benefit from the new prices and a new provider.

Do you just not use the smart capabilities of your phone with such little data shared?

Monopoly or Oligopoly is a market failure so I kinda see your point.
But when the barrier to entry is extremely high due to the infrastructure being controlled by a select few that AT&T merger block was necessary to protect consumers.

That would be awesome

I use my phone quite a bit for web and email and some apps, but I don't watch video on it much, and between MP3s stored on my phone and podcasts downloaded over wifi I don't have much need for streaming music.

I was just about to post this.
Maybe if I had wifi at work, even then I don't think I could get away with splitting 1 gig/month with my wife.
Actually, it's really not that great a deal for such little data. Talk/text costs them nearly nothing so most of that $90 is going towards data.

I'll stick with my 100 minutes and unlimited data a month for $30

It's is a contraction for it is. Hence: break "its" monopoly.
NOT: The free market is doing "it's"(it is ) job.

My family just changed our plan at AT&T this past weekend.
Went from 10GB of data to 20GB of data and the bill went down 40 bucks.

I'd buy you a beer IRL if I ever metyou. I just viewed my account online at AT&T wireless and changed to the new family value plan (4 lines) and saved roughly $75 per month. On top of that, I was able to increase my family data from 6GB to 10 GB.
Seriously, thank you for starting this thread

A lot of phones autocorrect "its" to "it's" regardless of grammatical correctness. But congrats on your elementary school English knowledge.

I noticed you have to get at least 10GB of data or they charge your more per phone. Still, a better deal than what I was paying before.

I use AT&T lines and pay 90 for 2 phones for 2.5 GB of data which is throttled to 2g speeds after that. No overage charge. No Contract and no BS fees on top the 90 dollars.
Plus in an hour I can switch my account to use T-Mobile lines if I want.
