I've never looked, but I imagine the resale value on the Equus is just terrible. I've never seen anyone under 70 driving one.

Meh...my mother had a Genesis. It was a piece of shite. I don't think it made it to 50,000 miles before they just traded it in. They got tired being stranded and eventually spending more time behind the wheel of the dealership loaner Sonata than their own car. I'm not at all sold on anything remotely complex built by Hyundai.

Of the luxury brands you mentioned, Jaguar is the most reliable.
I have no idea why you would buy a one year old car. You aren't going to save that much.

Depreciation in the first year is typically around 20% of total value, so yes...it saves a significant amount. If I find the model I want and there is no difference in the price tag then of course I will go new.

FWIW USAA has the value of my car as what I paid for it 2 years ago when I bought it brand new. But I got a great deal in December.

This is a great point...is there a certain time of the year that buying a car = best deal? Is December/holiday time the best? Right after the holidays?

Interesting observation: The richest person I personally know drives a 2001 Chevy Silverado with 300k miles on it.
I know a dude like this as well. He makes very high six figure salary and yet he drives an 04 F150 with the 205K miles on it and he still uses a dumb flip phone. I always tell him that he deserves to live it up with nice things because he's earned it and he's just starting to come around to this.

Rutgers and Audi go hand in hand; garbage begets garbage.
