you still looking at a new Tahoe?
My Yukon is starting to annoy - little electrical BS - I'm not likely to get another GM after this one. Probably get an F150 in a year or two.

I started poking around at the 2012-13's. Love that they last forever and they seem to have really high resale value.

Why stop there? Why not buy a $5k car and invest $40k?

But to answer your question, you can get a good vehicle that will be good for 100k+ miles for `15k, no problem

You do realize that two people can value assets and experiences differently, correct?
I don't want an Accord that simply goes from A to B and gives no joy from ownership.
There is a cost associated with HP, leather finishes, premium sound, etc.

Agree.
I read the thread where the guy was on like his third Accord. I was thinking that's pretty depressing.

You didn't answer my question. You can do that for $5k too, so why stop at $15k?

That is one of the most unusual lists of cars I've seen. You dont follow cars closely do you?
If you are wanting a luxury sedan a used CTS-V is the way I went. Luxury and performance, GM has come a long way in the last few years.

I do not follow cars at all... Hence my need for this thread. I've just started browsing via Internet in the past few days.

It is a diverse list, but not a bad list.
Your suggestion of a CTS-V is excellent, but a 2013 CTS-V, with low miles, is going to be tough to find for 45K. That's more like a 50K car.

Guess we cant all keep up with the latest car trends. I do like the SRT Jeeps but wouldn't go that route because every Chrysler I've owned was garbage.
Take a CTS Caddy for a drive man, they are amazing. The V models are among the fastest sedans in the world yet under normal conditions the ride is plush because of the active dampers. I checked out the Porsche sedans but they are ugly, interior lay out is confusing, ride quality sucks and the engine cuts off at red lights (very annoying). For a long time I wouldn't consider a GM but they really have made some amazing cars lately. Their active handling systems are so good that Ferrari buys the technology from GM and uses it on their best models. Once my son moves out I'm going after one of the new stingray vettes.
I got my V used with low miles for 48k. Little over your budget but at that price rang a few thousand isnt gonna break the bank. I talked the dealer down a bit because it had sat on the lot for a while due to everyone wanting a auto-trans.. personally I wanted the manual but I didnt let him know it.

I'd take any manual 5 series before the best Cadillac. Ride is plush, that's a good thing? Takes all types to make the world go around, but a Cadillac luxury sedan isn't for me.

Just get the toyota highlander. Easily one of the most bang for the buck SUV. I have 3 in the family with the highlander, and they all love it.

Ride is plush when you want it to be which is important on long trips... but in case you did not already know the CTS-V will murder a 5 series around a track. It handles amazing and was the fastest sedan to lap the Nurburgring in Germany before the Porsche came out. With the new active handling systems you dont have to compromise between comfort and performance.
Im not really a sedan guy but with a family I needed a sedan. Honestly the V is quicker than any of the two doors I owned previously including a vette.

He's talking about mag ride:
LINK
MagneRide is an automotive suspension system developed by the Delphi Automotive corporation[1][2] and now owned by Beijing West Industries that utilizes magnetically controlled dampers, or shock absorbers, for a highly adaptive ride. As opposed to traditional suspension systems, MagneRide has no mechanical valves or small moving parts that can wear out.[3] This system consists of four monotube dampers, one on each corner of the vehicle, a sensor set, and an ECU (electronic control unit) to maintain the system.
It is an outstanding design and it is the best on the market.

Murder? Welcome to 2008. Look, I think it's stupid to make sedans (much less an SUV) into a sports car, you just don't ever need that shite. The stat war has changed everything for the worse, IMO. I think the M5 is faster now, the E60 chassis was 6 years old when that fast lap was do e by Cadillac. The F10 version is faster. I still think that is an absurd comparison when I'm looking for a luxury sedan.
Posted on 9/8/14 at 1:24 pm to Gaston
Yes the F10 is quicker but at nearly 100k the V is much cheaper and has better features/tech. Not to mention maintenance/repairs on the BMW are ridiculous. I dont know why you would think a guy with a family wouldnt be in the market for a performance sedan? They certainly aren't stupid.
I have bad disks in my back and often spend 4 hours a day driving. Sedans like the Porsche and F10 just are not comfortable for me on long trips. The caddy is comfortable and also handles like a dream when I want to have some fun. I got to drive one of the new stingrays and it was about the same. Comfortable when driving normally yet firm when having fun. Once I dont have to lug around a family I'll go back to a two door.
