Kork, FWIW, it wasn't me.
I'd at least send her home in a running automobile.

There are two ports or posts that stick up from your battery, the negatively charged post and the positively charged post. There are cables that attach to each of these posts that run from your battery to your starter.
I'm not an idiot when it comes to cars or electricity, I just thought that if the battery was dead but the car remains running after a jump and most electrical systems are working, then the alternator would be ok.

So the window auto-up might just be a setting, and the lift-gate I will just call a fluke because it seems to have only not opened once. My only question now is why is the AC not blowing cold, as if the condenser fan isn't blowing (I haven't had access to verify if this is the case)?

Do you have a meter?

With the car running, check DC voltage at battery.

How old is the battery?

Dude, it's your alternator, guaranteed. Tell your wife to turn off the GD AC because it's draining amperage from the battery instead of the alternator while driving.

I do, but I still won't have access to the car until after work. It will be quicker if she just stops at autozone on the way home.

The car is a 2011 model, and I'm not 100% certain but I think I have changed her battery once already.

You know how hot it is outside, and you want me to tell her to turn off that little bit of cool air that it does blow? I think I'd rather replace the alternator and the battery than deal with that mess this evening.

Don't spill Coke on anything electrical. That's a golden rule.

Bad alternator will cause freaky issues like that. Mine would run, but as the voltage got low, A/C would cut out, then the radio would shut off, etc.

Kork, in newer vehicles, a battery with a weak or dead cell can do weird stuff to the electrical system. That would be my troubleshooting starting point.

One? Nah. Choo-choo, fricker.

EDIT: I'm in the battery going flaky camp. In my old car, I could tell when the battery was going south because systems would start dying one by one in the same order every time the battery failed. The idiot light would never come on, but as systems would start hitting their threshold, they'd go flaky. The starter would start getting sluggish, the fuel gauge would fluctuate and stop working, the stereo would start getting wonky, then it would die. The idiot light would never come on until the very end.

When the alternator went, the idiot light would come on the instant there was a problem before symptoms would arrive. So, I'm sticking with 'bad battery'.

Tell your wife the boys say hi.

Hahaha, touché. Nothing worse than having to deal with a female that's having hot flashes, while on tha period. The heat only exacerbates the issue.

Not being a smartass but the acadia is your problem I just got rid of ours because gm screwed the pooch with this one. terrible car and have tons of issues.

there is a switch for the lift gate right in front of gear shifter check it. battery could the issue. could be the alternator.

Yup. Wife had a 2011 Acadia. By the time we got rid of it 2 years later I was on a first name basis with the entire service department staff at walker gmc in ellic

2011 with the original battery is overdue for battery issues.

Well, the damned thing cranked right up after sitting in the parking lot for a few hours, but the AC is still not blowing cold. I did have her drive home with the AC off, and knowing the gravity of the situation I think she won't be too upset about it.

Rather than stopping at autozone, a local shop is going to check it out top to bottom in the morning. I will try to remember to update tomorrow to let you know whether Team Alternator or Team Battery won.

Yeah, I would just start with the battery.

If it cranked right up and the AC is not working, I am curios if a fuse was blown in the jump process.

Bad battery

This is likely the correct answer. 5 years from the factory battery is not bad.

There is too much idiotic stuff in many of the posts to even correct. You could be having alternator issues as well but I doubt it. If the car is giving a check engine code, then Autozone can help. Otherwise, trusted mechanic is the correct solution.

Odds are the AC issue is related to a fuse or fusible link. But it is possibly coincidental (that's rare, in my experience).

modern vehicles do some damn crazy shite when the battery goes bad....wouldn't surprise me at all that if you get a good battery in the vehicle, all of your other problems go away.
