Just for convenience. If you dont mind the added commute then uptown is fine.
It's actually not too bad. It takes her about 10-20 minutes depending on traffic.
Now that Napolean is somewhat fixed the ride downtown isn't too bad.

talk to me about these duplexes? Where can I find listings of such things?
I really don't care much about it being a complex, but my girlfriend likes the idea of a gated complex for safety's sake

I would love to be uptown, that would really be ideal.

Yeah if he wanted to find something around the park it would be doable. I'm pretty sure one of several of the bus lines pickup/drop off right there on Cowen Cir in front of Gibson Hall. Don't really need a bike to get there or while downtown.
If I was him I'd either move closr to campus uptown or CBD. Even if he wants to commute (drive) to and from class daily, he would still have the option of the Tulane transportation on days parking or driving wouldn't be the best option.

I didn't even think about the Tulane shuttles that run to and from downtown, I'm glad y'all brought them back to my attention!

We found ours by driving around.
When are you looking to move in?

It would probably be June-July when we would move down there

Just get on Zillow and check it out. Looks like there are four or five rental listings in the Uptown area around Tulane.
My SO is at Tulane Med. Good luck.
ETA: Just for reference.. most of her classmates either live Uptown or in the CBD. The people that live in the CBD are all California or northeastern types that are paying WAY more than $1,000 a month. You could possibly look into getting a roommate who is in your class. I definitely don't suggest getting a random roommate not in med school though.

I have friends at the Saulet and I've always thought it's pretty safe. Parking is gated and there seem to be quite a few cops who live there.
I've always thought it's nice to be a couple minutes away from Courtyard, downtown, and Magazine.

The Preserve doesn't seem too bad. It's a straight shot down Tulane Ave to the med school. That area is also improving.

This. And what's she look like?

Honestly check out craigslist or any major realtor company, a lot of them also do rentals. Your time frame for moving is a busy time around Campus so listings should start popping up in April and May.

Lithette #2 lives in Broadmoor area in a duplex. Just ride around near Nashville and Broadmoor and you'll see for lease signs. 1br 1 bath there was around 800-1000 dependind on how nice

That's the bottom of the bowl, so to speak, though, Lithium. Otherwise it's a great neighborhood, very close to a couple different restaurant corridors and a quick hop to the CBD via Claiborne, Earhart, or to the Med. Center going across Jeff Davis or Broad.
