It will be. Uptown/downtown/mid city would be best for both us.

I have friends at the Saulet and I've always thought it's pretty safe. Parking is gated and there seem to be quite a few cops who live there.

The agent who showed around told us that he had heard there was a rash of break ins in the immediate area. Not saying that living in the Saulet is a death sentence or anything . Just that a mega apt. complex in an otherwise not great area seems to be an easy target.

I've parked on the street overnight a few times and have been fine. I like the location, but I'm not a fan of those massive college style apartment complexes.

A brand new apartment complex was just built in Bucktown, right outside Lakeview. Don't have the name of it but like I said it's brand new and looks nice.

I have friends in the Cotton Mill, it's really nice as well. It can be a little too "Melrose Place" sometimes (everyone knows everyone, especiall those that hang out at the Rusty Nail) but it's in a great spot and close to a lot of perks of Nola.

Just find a house close to Bayou St. John if you can, you'll be happy you did.

2,000 post.

This was my main issue with the place.

Also why I didn't live in the new paramount complex in the CBD. Nice new place, with great amenities (an apt gym with a legit squat rack and DL platform with brand new Rogue bars and plates????? Holy shite!) but it was like, the antithesis of NOLA living. Looked like they picked up a complex from Houston and dropped it in the CBD.

Very true.

Luckily we found an awesome place just a block off the other side of poydras so we just walk to those places.

Why a no to Saulet? Any recs for the downtown or mid city area Johnny?

You can live in MidCity for the same price as the Saulet for double the room.

Looked at the Saulet--a little over 500 square feet (over a quart of which was the bathroom/ storage/laundry room was about $1300.

Same price in Mid City got me about 1000 square feet. Mid City is a great place and if you're looking to keep costs down, it's only of the more reasonable options.

Unless you're going to split a place with 3-4 other people, $1000 for a place downtown isn't realistic.

Question for the OP. Are you looking for a place that is 1k/month total? Or 2k/month split between you and your gf?

I looked at several places in the CBD that were 1k per person for 2 people. Place I live now a block off poydras is 900/month each.

Just a heads up, if you're living downtown you'll need to budget another $125-175/month per car for parking.
