But will move it over to the left side now.

BATON ROUGE - A federal grant will help fund changes on I-10, Congressman Garret Graves announced in a news release Tuesday. Sixty-million dollars will be used to facilitate closing the existing Washington Street exit in Baton Rouge and building a new, left exit for the Old South Baton Rouge community under the interstate south of downtown. The Washington Street exit is often debated as the reason that I-10 eastbound essentially becomes one lane off the river bridge as it merges with I-110. Graves' office said the money will be used to solve that situation, a reason traffic bottlenecks in the city.

We don't need an exit there at all.

Can't wait to hear Chambers portray this as dividing Baton Rouge

Perfect.

Maybe my Grandchildren will be old enough to drive by the time it's actually completed.

ETA: For the record, I'm 31 and have zero children yet.

In 1968 it cost $46m ($320m today) to build the whole damn bridge. About half of this will end up in politians' pockets.

I'm sure you "engineers" will be shocked when it doesn't happen, and if it did, wouldn't help at all.

I agree. The area is served via Nicholson/Highland exit on I-10 EB and Government St. on I-110 SB.

But, with the politics at play I'll settle for moving it to the left side and further North so that it doesn't impact the I-10 EB flow.

Dalrymple is less than 1000 feet away. And it serves Washington Street just fine.

Puts Baton Rouge a step closer to attracting a Super Bowl to be played in Tiger Stadium.

That too, I figured listing two of the three would convey the idea that the exit is absolutely pointless.

80% of it will go towards nothing related to the exit

The irony of it is that Dalrymple is a completely serviceble exit for West bound traffic but not for East bound to these idiots. I know you have Louise too, but the distance to Washington between the two is equal.

I'm dumbfounded by this whole thing. If that was my neighborhood, I would be ecstatic if there were a proposal to remove an interstate exit directly into my neighborhood. Who wants an interstate exit in their neighborhood? I understand that these people won't pass up an opportunity to claim racism, but this is completely illogical.
