There are a ton of buildings on Florida boulevard between N. Little John and Denham Springs that need to be demolished.

One place that comes to mind is that shite-arse strip across from Radio Bar next to Catholic, even though it isn't abandoned. CHS has been systematically buying up houses that back up to their campus over the last few years, and I'm pretty sure this strip will be next or is in the works. Mid-City has had a major revival and this strip is holding a lot of it back IMHO.

If it was in a bad area, noone would care if it was still erect. The problem is, there are brand new homes and decent area not too far away. Santa Maria at Boone and Worthington Estates are nice neighborhoods.

I used to ride my bike there in the summers and watch the matinee for 2 dollars.

Prolly not technically part of B.R. but on 190 starting at 415 all the way past the old bridge...the old motels, candlelight inn, the old debennedetto's, etc...nothing but trash

Same here, my grandma's house was right around the corner. We'd go see movies and buy comic books at the bookstore in the same shopping center.

That whole area between Airline and Denham along Florida is struggling more than it should. Those service roads are like a barrier to potential retail traffic on Florida (which stays pretty busy), and it's way over developed for the local residential market.
I think with a better format for Florida blvd, that whole area would improve.

Anyway, that whole area you're talking about is highly inhabited with Asians and Mexicans, and many of the businesses along that corridor cater directly to them. There are actually some awesome little ethnic markets in there if you know where to look. Regardless, I think it's just that the property values of the homes in the area have decreased, so there aren't any big money-spenders living nearby to create the demand for new businesses.
