To hell with all you taking up for the cop in this instance.
No way that cop was in danger and should be tried for murder.
I usually back the police but not in this case.
That cop is a fricking a-hole and should go to prison the rest of his life or die from capital punishment.

Well, using the boards as reference I'd say he's about 20-25 (30 max) feet away and raising a deadly weapon at the cop after telling the cop he wasn't going to put it down. Could the guy throw it? Say he charges... then when do you start shooting, wait til he gets 10 feet away? What if you miss or you dont drop him quickly and he keeps coming?

Where in the article does it say this. The officer clearly said is this him. Seems to be unknown perp. MAKING THREATS was the call. Seems like he is not the property owner.
Ax gun knife. Comply and live. If you raise a deadly weapon what do you thing would happen.

Neither of which is illegal on private property. This is a prime example of why qualified immunity is a mistake. Police departments today are filled with the dregs of the gene pool. Most often them would probably get fired from any job except retail and fast food, yet here they are with a badge, a gun, and no concept of what their job is.

For some reason folks just can't understand this simple fact. Instead they want to root in like children bucking against their parents. How many videos of this nature are posted where cops shows up, the person is respectful and compliant from start to finish, and the person is then abused and/or killed?

How does that boot taste? Hope you enjoy living in a police state.

What boot? I'm not interacting with the cops outside of traffic stops so there is no boot to taste. Tell me how the bullet tastes when you play stupid games and win stupid prizes.
Seriously, was he quick to the trigger? Possibly, but what history does the guy have that he is interacting with? What was the verbiage on the call in for them to ride out and approach him? There are so many things that can change the approach, but the simple fact is, put the hatchet down when you are asked in that situation.

The dead guy never moved. The cop decided what distance should be between the two of them. If he was that scared of being hurt, he should have never run up on the dead guy like that.
He also could have stopped at a safe distance and called 911. Then, they would both be alive, and the cop would not be in trouble.

Then you should be charged with murder for being a dumbass.
Unfortunately being a dipshit isn’t a crime.
Guy standing straight up and casually says “listen, bro…” with the axe in hand. Unbelievably bad decision making by the cop regardless of the issued command.

Yeah he did, he raised his right arm above his head which I'm guessing has the hatchet in it. Thats what prompted the cop to shoot. I've got a good still pic of it a few posts up.

If I shot somebody 30 ft away that just raised a hatchet at me should I go to prison?
Eta sorry, do you think I would go to prison? Because I do.

The LEO was very, very calm the whole time, other than his loud, angry tone when telling the guy to drop the ax.
Calmly shot the guy in the head, reported shots fired, walked up looked at the guy, told radio he shot a white male in the head, then calmly told his partner he was "ok".
Just another day at the office for this particular deputy.

Well, are you a cop that has been called to stop someone that has been threatening people and cutting power to their houses for the last 7 hours, you've told them to put the weapon down 4 times, they tell you no, and then raise it at you?
Or are you a regular Joe approaching someone with a hatchet for no reason?

Seems instinctive to raise your hand and show that it's just a simple garden tool in your hand. The man was murdered while calmly saying "hey listen bro." No threat to the officer whatsoever. Or maybe he was an old man who was slow to respond. It doesn't matter; free people shouldn't live in fear of having to prove to amped up short-dick cops that we're not a threat.
He really wasn't even close to the cop

Ok, so shooting him in the head was completely reasonable beyond the shadow of a doubt then? Help me understand.

I want to know what the difference is. Neither of our lives would be in danger. So why does one get to murder somebody while the other would go to jail?

If a cop isn’t willing to put a citizen’s rights over their own safety, they’re in the wrong line of work.

I agree with you, but remember, cops aren’t your friends. They aren’t there to help you. They are there to enforce laws and ensure taxes and fines are paid first. They are not there to protect and serve.
Now, I’m not some anti-cop, anarcho-communist, ANTIFA air head. I know there are exceptional people that are cops and that a shite ton of these situations are incredibly difficult to deal with. I openly admit I couldn’t be a cop.
But police are not there to defend your rights or the rights of the overall citizenry. They are there to enforce laws.
