That's not the right type of diversity.

There's a lot of truth to that too. But then we'd have to really address the issue why there is an academic gap for black males (and to a lesser extent black females) and nobody wants to hear about that if the blame falls within the home and growing up in an environment that doesn't value education.

If the Left had its way, it would be a crime to be white.

Do people like this think there are laws in place that prevent minorities from taking STEM jobs?

No, but they do believe there are evil white men who go through college and grad school applications and throw away most of the "non-white" ones.

Which still doesn't make any fricking sense considering how many non-white males are scientists in this current day and age. This isn't 1960. Go to PNAS and read the authors names of the published papers. For every "white male" sounding name you find you will see just as many Asian, Eastern European, or women names.

How are they defining "minority"?

Do Indians and East Asians count?

Do they understand that because of diversity quotas certain "minority" demographics are over-represented in some fields?

Why would we want people in STEM not based on merit? Do they even understand the danger and catastrophe that can be wrought by people that aren't up to par?

I actually interned at the office where they handle this. It was pretty cool just sipping scotch and throwing out applications, "so you wanna be an astronomer, not on my watch Darryan"

My daughter is a senior in HS right now and is going to Georgia Tech this fall. She is going into the College of Sciences to pursue a Biochem degree. We had the all day long "Explore" orientation yesterday for incoming freshmen. It appeared to be about 60% females and my white daughter was definitely a minority. At least 60% of those females were Indian or Asian. I saw a few black people but they were the race the least represented.

I want to say I read somewhere not too long ago that LSU has some of the more diverse STEM majors in the country

I got my degree in mechanical engineering from LSU in 2001.

Trust me when I say that even in the late 90's and early 00's there were very large numbers of people from a range of Asian countries including India.

I thought it was like that in every major university.

Separation of church & state should apply here somehow. The mainstream meaning of race has nothing to do with the scientific meaning of race. And mass media has become a religion for both sides.
