Those are both good, IMO, but I would probably pick the Mazda.

I feel like it is a bit larger on the inside and Mazda dealers will deal whereas Honda dealers won't, generally speaking.

Just bought and 4wd Honda Pilot for my wife and kids. Looked at a Chevy traverse, Ford Edge, and the Pilot was leaps and bounds better.

-4x4, 3rd row, 3.5l v6, leather, 4500lbs towing capacity and the reliability of a Honda. Had 50k miles got it for $20k.

Good luck.

Depends on how small of a "small SUV" you want but Toyota Highlander and RAV4 are both great vehicles.

My wife liked the GMC Terrain so we just bought a 2013 Terrain SLT-1 for 17k. Nice vehicle but I would have preferred the Toyotas.

I never recommend any vehicle that has a "Poor" rating in any safety category.

Good luck with yours.

GF bought a new GMC Terrain this week. I love it and you can get them for around 30. I wouldn't drive it over my 4x4 4runner but it gets good mileage and looks pretty nice.
edit: she didn't get the Denali package

Not sure where you get your information from but that's incorrect. I never said what year it was either so I don't know what you're referring to.

The wife and I don't put many miles on our cars. We went with an Acura MDX, program car (30K miles). Full bumper to bumper warranty. We love it so far.

Excellent performance and service.

Good luck.

My wife wants a Rogue due to mainly the interior.

Are those bad cars? We've gone as far as getting financing options for them so please speak now or forever hold your peace.

My SO got a 2014 CRV recently and its pretty damn nice. So much so that I'm considering getting one when I dump my '08 3 series. We tried quite a few SUVs before she settled on the CRV. It drives really nice to the point that it feels more like a car than an SUV.

She was actually ready to plunk down the money for a new BMW X5 but the guy at the dealership was so condescending when we started talking about financing that we got up and left his dickhead arse.

Love the way the RDXs look, but $30k is even pushing the budget so I don't feel comfortable spending a little more.

The Mrs. doesn't want a vehicle larger than a small SUV, so the Pilot, Explorer, etc... recs are pretty much out of the discussion for the time being.

I had a Nissan Xterra that drank so much gas. The starter went out about 125k miles and had some circuit issues. Other than that, I can't say much. Wouldn't own another Nissan probably. Just me though.

MIL has a Mazda cx-5, which I've driven for a significant amount of time. I like it. Nice ride and like the interior. I'm currently in a Toyota rav4 rental that I've been driving for the last week and it drives smooth but I do say that I prefer the Mazda. I feel like there's enough similarity between all the mini SUVs that I would get the one that has the better dependability reviews.

With that said we will end up buying something similar but probably neither one of these two.

I would imagine you could get a lightly used Volvo XC60 for under $30K. Girls love that thing for some reason.

I had this as a rental once and liked it for that class of vehicle. When my mom was looking, I suggested it. I think she walked out the door at around $37+ though. A little out of his range.

Best bet is to find something that stickers for about 40k and look at a really nice pre-owned with a few years of warranty left. My commuter car was under 30k, but other than using it for that, there aren't too many cars that really wow me under the 30k price point. Not saying they are horrid and un-drivable, but I'd personally rather drive used.

The Kia sorento or sportage - KIA has stepped theie game up

Ford Edge as mentioned - but check out consumer reviews about the transmission. I know Ford has had some issues with those in certain models

Mazda CX5 is nice too. Might be a little over your budget though depending on the bells and whistles you want
