Here in Alabama, I really miss the Bruno’s/Food World stores. The Bruno family are great people.

Forever a lesson on not letting too many of your top people fly on one jet. Because if it crashes…

Grew up with a Food World in town and Bruno’s in Huntsville. Great stores.

A guy I work with constantly raves about HEB. I figured he’s always exaggerating but judging by this thread he isn’t

quote: Rouses vary incredibly store by store This is the truth. Rouses I believe has grown too fast via acquisition. It's resulted in stores that all have different looks, different levels of employee and managers, etc. Some of their stores are very good and others are absolute trash.

I find even the same store can vary greatly from one visit to the next.

I’ve also learned to check expiration dates carefully from Rouses. Hopefully they’ve gotten better about checking their stock. I don’t shop there much anymore.

I know Rouses is mentioned frequently on here. Is it of Publix quality?

Rouse's compared to Publix is like comparing a dirty independent gas station compared to a brand new Buccee's

Central market

I’m an avid cook and have shopped in all kinds of grocery stores from bottom feeders like target and wall mart to high end specialty markets. Going to a grocery store is one of my favorite things in life.

Central Market is hands down the GOAT. It is the best grocery store I have ever been to.

Trader Joe’s and Aldi are the correct answers to this post.

Neither of these are regional.

Lowe’s Foods is legit. It, Publix, and Harris Teeter are the best in the Carolinas.

Piggly Wiggly fricked up when they messed up their Greenbacks program. Bi Lo is making a little comeback now.

I love Winn-Dixies, they did a great job through the hurricanes and pandemic. They also seem to be managing the shortages of staples and staff better than big chains. The ones in my area are very clean, the employees are friendly, most of them have been there for a long time. They definitely earned my loyalty. I never go to Rouse or Wally World.

I haven’t seen a Winn-Dixie in years. I am in Texas.

Probably 15-20 years.

Did Rouse's go downhill or something? I remember the ones in Mandeville and Metairie being pretty nice ~2010-2015.

They are pretty hit or miss. It seems like the Rouses built from the ground up are much nicer than the stores they took over and remodeled. At least that's been my experience.
