I'll be building a new home this year in Covington, and will have choice of internet provider. I'm not interested in television channels, though I'll need some way of accessing local channels.

1) Any suggestions on internet service provider? I'm assuming the choices are Charter, the satellite providers (Dish, Direct) or AT&T.

2) Also, do I hardwire w CAT 5 (or fiber?), or can I go all wireless now? Getting fiber in ATL, but assuming it's not really available in CovLA.

3) I've always hardwired speakers throughout the house for music. Do I do this again, assuming there is a receiver that now handles bluetooth? Or do I try to do several rooms (4) with Sonos?

TIA

AT&T offered me service about 2 blocks from the new homesite 4 years ago.

They're active in Covington (proper) now.

I don't think sattelite companies do internet. Just wire cat6 first, then maybe att will have gigablast in time for move in. If not them, i've been pleased with charter

Charter for Internet, DirecTV for television.

Hardwire your ceiling speakers, run Cat 5e anywhere you want cameras or televisions.

Gonna be a long time before we outgrow Cat 5e.

Ahhh. Now I understand. In-laws have and are constantly having trouble with feed.

I'll need to check out a base cable package w/ internet through Charter. Damn bundles.

Do you know how old I am? ... my sister is near my age.

But if it's ok with her, it's ok with me.

So I am going to want cameras by entry ways. Run Cat5e. Got it.

Not looking for anything fancy with cameras. Any thoughts on the package-sets sold at Sam's Club?

CAT6 inside the house. No Cat5.

I think ceiling speakers sound like garbage. I wire my floor standing speakers directly to my integrated amp and it's loud enough to be 'whole house sound'.

I use my iPhone to access the music in my computer, which sends bit correct sound through an airport to an external DAC. Sounds great.

Yeah, you're right. Diff. in cost is negligible.

I don't know anything about them. No matter which way you go, if you've got a cable drop at the location, you can put high-res cameras there.

This makes no sense. Nobody wants freestanding speakers in the dining room or kitchen.

Quality in-ceiling speakers can sound really good, especially in rooms where audio is not the focal point.

Also, DirecTV and AT&T are one company now and they'll want to sell you a bundle. I'd move carefully.

Well I have an open concept house and you can hear the music just fine from the two speakers in the living room. Hell you could hear it fine in the back shower if you turn it up enough.

In a party situation ceiling speakers in multiple locations are fine. You get even coverage without having to play one area louder. You always look at it from a fidelity standpoint. That is great if that's all you want but a lot of people are simply interested in having music playing without large speakers taking up floor space. There's a good purpose for both types of systems and your square peg into round hole shtick doesn't work for most people.
