re: Best beach and beach city to live full time?

My sister lives out there now, and doesn't even like sitting on the beach because the wind coming off of the water is cold. She is about 15-20 minutes from Huntington/Newport Beach, and has been three times in the past year. If it was warmer, she'd be out there a couple of times a week

My only problem is I want more than a servers salary. I would like to raise a non trashy family and live on the water or damn near it. So I'd need a decent job or make some money for a few years and open up my own restaurant or some sort of business

My wife wants us to move and live full time in Destin
I told her I would go in a heart beat if I could find a job that the compensation and benefits are equivalent to what I have now. While it isn't impossible to find that there, it's harder to come by in a beach town

I want to move to either the Central Coast of California or a smaller beach town in Florida.

She's from there so we would have a shite ton of connections but just can pull the trigger on moving there. I told her that we can go over other weekend or more, which is only a 2 hour drive from here

Love Destin.
Haven't been to Navarre since it got really built up.
Ft Walton was the place to go when I was young and partying.
Never been to Mexico Beach. I Googled Mapped it. It looks like a sleepy little town.

I would LOVE to live in this town. But Water is fricking COLD.
Destin has beautiful Beaches but sucky town.
Right answer is Clearwater down to Sarasota area for Proximity to nice big city and awesome beaches.

I like it down there, would probably be where I'd head if moving to Florida

My only problem with CA beaches is the water temperature. San Diego is as far south as you can get, and its water only gets up to 75 degrees in the summer. That's pretty cold.
Lots of east coast beaches get into the 80s.
So I guess I'd pick Miami if I were only interested in the beach.
I'd probably pick somewhere in CA because I love mountains and hiking more than I love the beach. Miami is great, but CA appeals to me more. I could live anywhere on the coast except for LA.
I'm tempted to apply for a job in Santa Barbara, but I'm in NYC right now and I really like it here. There's good hiking and good beaches just a short train ride away.

All gulf coast beach cities are trash. Atlantic Coast is less trashy in the middle and northern states.
West coast is least trashy.

Actually the LA beach towns are some of the best in the world.... Malibu, pacific palisades, Manhattan beach, Santa Monica(although more of a city). Technically barely any part of the city of Los Angeles touches the ocean.
