I have determined that when I am older and have made all the money that I can. I will move to a beach somewhere and just enjoy the quiet beach life. Maybe work cleaning boats or something mundane like that. I have not been to many beaches outside the Emerald Coast beaches. Wasn't impressed with Myrtle Beach. Probably couldn't afford any place on the east coast of FL. And I'm not sure about West coast beaches. Cali beaches would be the only ones I would consider.

Interested to hear what the OT says about the best beaches to just chuck it all and live like a beach bum.

If you think you can't afford a place on the East Coast of Florida then you really can't afford to live on the beach in Cali. Southern Cali beaches would be the best however.

You are correct. Thought about that right after I typed it.

And you think it's cheaper in California? Go price it, and the ocean is cold.

Southern Florida on the gulf side probably has some great beaches.

I am relatively young (32) and live on the beach in gulf shores. Moved here a year ago after living all over the US after college.

A) Its cheaper than you think to live year-round
B) Why wait til you "made all the money I can"? Life is unpredictable. You might die before you get to live your dream. Create it
C) While there are more prestine beaches in the US, there is no crime in gulf shores. Can't tell you te last time I locked anything.

California beach towns are awesome, but the homes are pretty pricey. Also the beaches are different-rocky, browner sand, cold water. IMO gulf beaches are better but California beach towns are better. Ventura, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz are all great places.

There are plenty of places on the east cost of Florida. Especially on the space coast /Brevard County. Also new Smyrna/port orange and some of the areas in South Volusia County. I live in North palm Beach in Palm Beach County, about 7 mins from the Juno beach parking lot. I make nowhere near what the majority of the OT makes. I lived in St Augustine beach for awhile. In terms of quiet beach towns, I really enjoyed it. Down here Hobe Sound is pretty quiet and close enough to Jupiter or Stuart which are bigger. The insane money /influence from Jupiter island will likely always prevent Hobe sound from getting too crowded as it is their northern border.

Eta:I've lived in California in SD and Monterey as well. I love it out being that I'm an avid surfer (well at least before two kids) but it's crazy expensive.

I really want to retire to The Keys. Great fishing, but also picturesque beaches and nice beach house living.
