What is wrong with AMERICA?????? We are turning into a sad nation. And you wonder why some of us love a strong leader like Vlad.

The hidden inequality of who dies in car crashes

quote:

New research by Sam Harper, Thomas J. Charters and Erin C. Strumpf, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, finds that improvements in road safety since the 1990s haven't been evenly shared. The biggest declines in fatalities have occurred among the most educated. As for people aged 25 and older with less than a high school diploma, fatality rates have actually increased over time, bucking the national trend:

The underlying issue here is not that a college degree makes you a better driver. Rather, the least-educated tend to live with a lot of other conditions that can make getting around more dangerous. They own cars that are older and have lower crash-test ratings. Those with less education are also likely to earn less and to have the money for fancy safety features such as side airbags, automatic warnings, and rear cameras.

So now cars are racist. I guess the study failed to show a 88 caprice was not engineered to have a 6 inch lift and 30 inch rims which has now given it the turning radius of a school bus.

So a busted 1990's Chevy Caprice with 26's isn't the safest vehicle? Who would have thought.

dumb people make dumb decisions.
ETA - Higher education = higher income = newer vehicle = safer car. it's math.

The role of behavioral differences is murkier. Some studies show lower seat-belt use among the less-educated, but seat-belt use has also increased faster among that group over time, meaning socioeconomic differences there are narrowing. Data on alcohol use is also conflicting.

I found the answer, thanks.

And those with less education tend to have lower IQs. Low IQ predisposes you to a lot of life's ills.

And, I hate to say it, but I notice that poor people don't have children in proper safety restraints while in the vehicle.

What's worse is they usually have two or three in the car.

It's also a mentality, I guess. Once I saw a woman holding something. I couldn't make it out. When I got out the car and she was getting into hers, I saw that she was holding a baby. Little thing couldn't have been more than a month old, 20 days tops.

She just got into the car with the baby over her right shoulder and just drove off like it was no big deal. I was floored.

I saw a woman with 5 kids in a car. 4 of them (who looked to be under 6) were in the back seat. No seat belt. The one in the front didn't have a seat belt on as well. She was also listening to music that would pop their little ear drums.

Because Black Lives Matter and the gun control people will want to know:

What's the ratio/percentage of black to white drivers who die in these crashes? Its important...

The college degree itself may not help you, but it could be that the educated have traits that make them safer drivers and she ignores that possibility.

She goes straight into blaming the environment, finances and the vehicles. This is the same type of person who blames guns for mass shootings.

Poor people don't wear seatbelts. They tend to make many other bad decisions, hence the "poor."

I see this way too often. It's really sad. A lot of times the parent is talking on the phone or texting, or reclined so much that they're in the back seat with the child that is unrestrained and playing around.

Stupid people make stupid decisions on the road. Not very surprising.

That shite drives my wife nuts.... I have to lock the windows so she can't tell them anything for not restraining their kids....

BTW.. She's an NICU nurse....

There sure are a lot of studies conducted to conclude dumb people make poor decisions.

Wish I could get a government research grant to do one.
