Meanwhile, arrests have plunged: Police are booking fewer than half the number of people they pulled off the streets last year.
quote:

“Before it was over-policing. Now there’s no police,” said Donnail “Dreads” Lee, 34, who lives in the Gilmor Homes, the public housing complex where Gray, 25, was chased down. “People feel as though they can do things and get away with it. I see people walking with guns almost every single day, because they know the police aren’t pulling them up like they used to.”
So apparently, the cops haven't dialed in the scientifically perfect amount of policing. Can't imagine why they'd scale back the arrests.
quote:

“Our officers tell me that when officers pull up, they have 30 to 50 people surrounding them at any time,” Batts said.

I would do it for a $1,000,000/hr but not a penny less.

What's worse for the general public: an over policed state or an under policed state?

They just need to get guns and police themselves.

As long as citizens are morally policing themselves and loving their neighbors, under policed is ideal. For those that don't, there isn't a good solution IMO.

Should consider it a test area. Send no police into that area of Baltimore for anything - burglary, arson, murder, etc. Let the dead body lie in the streets if that happens. Keep all police out for 3 months and see where it is then

The Mayor had a press conference and got grilled pretty hard. She had the deer in the headlight look. The Fox reporter asked her if she was planning any protest for any of the 35 people killed this month.

They're probably upset that cops don't serve the people.

I mean, would you find it acceptable if the IRS decided to just say "frick it" and stop collecting taxes? I mean that's what you want when you complain about IRS abuse and taxes, right? But, wait.. people will revolt once the military and critical functions can't even be funded.

The lack of nuance by people who think you have to either be 100% for cops or 100% against them is insanely common. There should not be such a negative connotation for asking for a better government with higher standards.

Good luck. Maryland, ironically, has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation.
