And it's not just a southern trash trend. I have several friends in NYC and those Yankees are going wacko with kids names. Names from mythology are popular up there now: Persius, Memphis, Pan, Andromeda, ; as are Shakespearian names such as Othello (oddly, he's white) Cassius, Allegra.
Memphis and Andromeda are siblings - Ivy League, UWS parents...go figure...

A lot of whites make fun of black names for their spelling, but sometimes whites are the worst offenders. Soccer moms love their "y's."
A quick flip through my daughter's dance recital program reveals the following:
Hayleigh
Addyson
Raylin
Kyleigh
Katelyn
Caitlyn
Madelyn
Braxtyn
Baelea (pronounced Bailey)
Magdalynn
Dilyn
Zoie
Jyllian
Camryn
Christ, I didn't even get a quarter of the way through the book.
FTR, by far the most common names among females aged 5 through mid-teens or so are Mackenzie, Caitlyn, Chloe, and Maddison (or some variation of those names). It's like every white girl in south Louisiana has one of about fifteen names.

I think it all stems from a recent desire for parents to believe their children are more special than they are. It's no coincidence children nowadays are more spoiled than ever. I have a 5 year old myself and I don't think that can be debated.

white trailer trash girls dropping out of HS. putting the, this is my baby, sonogram pictures, on social media. taking mirror pics of their baby bumps like it is an accomplishment.
then too boot. they get to be about 7 mos. along in their pregnancy. they actually c/o the bad day they had cause they just came from the welfare place and found out their black baby daddy has fathered 42 kids. while other, ugly white trash ho's their age like their posts and update their black baby daddy pregnancy.

I think it's also because people are increasingly short sighted and imagine their kids as only being kids, as opposed to people who will grow up and become adults with families and careers. So they give them a childish, made-up name with bizarre spellings that they think sounds cool, not all that dissimilar from naming a pet.
Then they obsess over them, spoil them into being helpless creatures, and ruin their youth sports.
