Personally, I think it's pretty dumb.

It's bad, but buying a Minivan or station wagon is far worse.

Mother-in-law mentality. Not only that, the baby isn't even born yet.

Old enough not to have had a gender reveal party when my wife had our kid. My excuse to have friends over to drink is finding a prime packer brisket on sale and lighting up the smoker.

They are cringeworthy and overplayed.

I get what your saying. Buying a minivan seems lame, but buying your wife something she needs to help take care of your kids is about the least beta thing you can do. Seems like there's too many "baws" on here that like to look cool and alpha instead of paying attention to what's important. Who gives a shite if someone throws a party for their baby or buys a minivan. To each his own and frick everybody else that don't like it. If it makes your woman happy, then I don't see a problem with it. Half the "baws" on this board wouldn't be single or divorced if they worried more about making their women happy instead of looking "alpha".

You may not give a shite but guys who work hard during the week and want a few hours off on weekends might. And your wife hates the van you got her..

You know what else is an excuse to hang out with friends and family and party? A party. Have a party and invite friends and family.

Having a "gender reveal" party isn't an excuse to do anything other than draw attention to yourself as if being pregnant and having everyone constantly ask you about the baby isn't attention enough.

No one except the parents give a shite about the gender of a baby. To throw a party and obligate your friends and family to pretend to care is narcissistic and attention whoring. You're not that important.

To be fair, nobody gives a shite about your wedding or engagement party either

If it will make my wife happy to do it, I do not mind. I do not consider it beta, I consider it being a good husband.

I have been to them for family members, and I did not feel obligated. Everyone seemed genuinely happy.

Not sure what this has to do with you and others trying too hard in this thread.

Gender reveal parties have gone from. "Hey, let's get family over and surprise them with what gender our child is."
to
"hey let's see who can have the better gender reveal party...and then we'll post it on facebook."

It went from, let's open a box full of balloons, or maybe cut a cake, to let's shoot off fire works, that turn into an eagle, and whatever color the eagle shits out, our kid is the OPPOSITE"

I'm gonna have a party where we cut the cake and it's green, then we announce that we're going to wait until we have it like normal fricking people.
