No one except the parents give a shite about the gender of a baby. To throw a party and obligate your friends and family to pretend to care is narcissistic and attention whoring. You're not that important.

Who are you to say that friends and family don't care about celebrating anything baby related with the parents? Maybe they have a different opinion than you do?

We did one. I made a motion capture video set to music. Most artistic things I've ever done it my life and I was damn proud! That was my full contribution though. Wife and her friends took care of the planning and all the other stuff. The party itself wasn't terrible. Just people hanging out. Not sure why that's a bad thing.

A. People on this board really don't understand what an Alpha or Beta male is. As a quick primer: Alpha males don't exist in humans, and havent for nearly 7 million years. That is a key reason we were able to cooperate with each other and build societies and civilizations.
B. While I suppose this might just be an excuse for a party, in which case whatever, it still seems like an extremely narcissistic and self-absorbed reason to do so. I personally would never do it, and I'm pretty sure my family and friends would think less of me if I did.

Just let someone give you a baby shower and be done with it.
It is helpful and polite if you let the guests know if it's a girl or boy In the invitation so they can get the blue or pink baby gear.
Also an open bar during it is thoughtful, if there will be any males there. But there shouldn't be any males there.

It's pretty stupid to say that the family doesn't care about the baby. When my sister was pregnant the first time, I damn well cared about the baby. What kind of person wouldn't care about his family? It seems pretty natural to me. Some of these people are freaking miserable with their hatred of other people being happy. It's pretty exciting stuff if you are actually close. That said they didn't do anything big and just invited immediate family and a couple of friends who expressed interest. I actually couldn't make it, although I would have liked it if I could. Also, the second baby they had, some of the novelty had worn off, and they were pretty busy anyway with the baby they already had so they skipped those formalities.
