Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a euphoric experience characterized by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine, precipitating relaxation.

Do any of you people watch ASMR videos? This shite is pretty weird but it does work.

I don't know shite about it, but is there any science behind this? I always got the feeling that the people who were into this were also the ones talking about getting "contact highs" around people smoking pot.

I have lost myself watching a couple of them but I actually have gotten tingles or goosebumps.

I enjoy them occasionally. Only works with headphones, but does occasionally. I don't get the head tingles that many seem to, but I get weird jolts down my back in much the same way I would during foreplay with someone whispering in my ear.

Power of suggestion bro. You'd probably be a stage hypnotist's wet dream.

Never watched the videos, but have experienced that on occasion when on the phone with certain customer service reps for whatever reason(usually those with thick, foreign accents). Would get the goosebumps on my arm and scalp and just felt really relaxed and almost hypnotized by their voice.

There is a Filipino nurse I work with....her voice has the same effect as well. She has a very thick accent, and always seems to have a calming effect on fussy babies at work..I always call her the "baby whisperer". Maybe the ASMR factor is why.

I buy my coffee from PJ's and get them to grind it for me. The whole experience from the way the girl's voice is to opening the bag and the beans grinding is all one ten minute long ASMR experience.

I have had certain CSR's on the phone that give me head tingle as well.

I have never experienced anything on the phone. I do remember that every time my lower school librarian would talk it would give me goosebumps.

It is because your subject title is only one word....change that and it should unanchor the thread

So the secret is out after all these years we late nighters would be on here, " poor nurse she is working in the baby dungeon tonight!". All that time you had the baby whisperer with you

You realize I don't work in the NICU?

I'm sent there on occasion.....and usually NOT with that other nurse I mentioned. That nurse actually loves working in the NICU and prefers taking care of babies over bigger kids. Another reason I call her the baby whisperer.

ETA: We get fussy babies on the regular peds floor all the time. Many times they don't have parents with them...so only us nurses to calm them down when they wake up crying/hungry/wet/poopy.
