If he never saw the truck he could have just been so shocked to get hit out of nowhere from the shoulder that he overreacted to the right.

Too severe, but vehicular homicide for sure.

Highly doubt the pickup driver deliberately rammed an 18-wheeler thinking he'd kill the other driver. Negligent homicide would more likely be the correct charge.

The truck going off the rails to the right means most likely it cut back way too hard right.

I don't think he went off the right side of the bridge. Pics show the truck in the water between the two bridges (eastbound and westbound lanes), plus from the article:

quote:

The tractor-trailer swerved and hit another 18-wheeler traveling in the left lane, Manale said. One of the trucks crashed through the bridge's left concrete guardrail – taking out about 75 feet of the railing – and fell to the water below, he said.

It isn't even clear from that which truck went off the side of the bridge, the one in the right lane or the one in the left lane.

you're right, the line is yellow in the picture not white, I didn't look at it that hard.

Fvck every single driver who tries to pass when they know their lane is ending. Wait your turn like every other decent person on the road. If you see signs for a mile that your lane will close, don't use that lane to pass everyone before merging.

This should be a sign on I-10 westbound at the Veteran's exit. I think 70% of the cars try and ride the two exit lanes as long as possible and then cut over and create the same traffic they are trying to avoid.

POS

quote:

Authorities said two 18-wheelers were driving in the right and left lanes of the two-lane highway and Coy tried to pass the 18-wheeler in the right lane by driving on the right shoulder.

But as he approached the bridge over the Middle Pearl River, Coy suddenly swerved to the left -- back into the right traffic lane -- to avoid crashing into the bridge guardrail. Coy's vehicle crashed into the front of the truck in the right lane, then veered into the left lane where it crashed into the 18-wheeler driven by Clark. The impact pushed Clark's rig over the cement barrier and into the water below.

and he's sportin' that New Iberia haircut under his cap. The POS has it all going on. Hope he gets the max for vehicular manslaughter and fleeing.

I guess one truck swerved to let the the pickup in and knocked the other off the bridge?

Jerk move by the pickup truck driver.

This is not the least bit shocking though.
