You're mid 30's with a family right? Much much different for someone 25-30 looking for things to do besides go out and get drunk every single weekend. My friends are fine and I like meeting new people. There's just not a large population of single people my age to meet. Most have left the city.

I go to tons of LSU sporting events. I'm saying outside of LSU sports, there's not much for young professionals to do.

I'm late 20's with no kids. My normal week this fall:

Monday nights - kickball team where I met about 8 new people
Tuesday - Happy's Run if I'm in town
Wednesday - Volunteer group meeting for big event I'm helping run
Thursday - Work events, dinner/drinks with friends
Friday - Tailgate prep with my brother and his friends
Saturday - the obvious

I look at it like this.... IT very well could be.. but will NEVER be because of LSU..... The crime will never go away and the schools will never get fixed because people who move to this area will LIVE outside the city......

you grew up in BR?

Let's look at this from the view point of someone who maybe just came from somewhere else to LSU, then graduated and found a job here.

ETA: I bring this up because I do notice a difference in opinions from people who grew up in BR talking about BR, and people who came here for college from somewhere else, and ended up staying here (or nearby) for job opportunities.

Nope. First time I set foot in BR was to tour LSU my senior year of HS.

LSU student from out of state. Been here for 11 years now.

overpass bars? the levee? the manship theatre? the red dragon?

the river center? shite, blue man group is coming to BR in january. that's really cool.

for those that say there's "nothing to do" aren't looking for anything to do and just like to complain about shite.

Shitty traffic and infrastructure everywhere heavily populated in this country. After everyone is taxed to death to pay for welfare and government salaries/benefits there is nothing left.

The only problem in Baton Rouge is everyone says there isn't anything to do here. If demand for entertainment truly existed someone would be providing it. I am guessing they expect the government to pay for their entertainment. For me I love it here. Wish I could send my kids to public school is my only complaint. I don't need others to entertain me. I enjoy living in a sportsman paradise and having great friends to socialize with.

I think we will see a lot of neighborhoods make a comeback. Tera is an example of one now.

I've been in BR twice a month for over a year and a half now. I'm from Austin.

BR is a pretty cool town. I enjoy it thoroughly and see all the potential. It's nearly there to becoming a great mid-size city. It just needs to be a little more progressive and less do-nothing-kick-the-can-down-the-road.

well, what do you want? I have a feeling people that complain about there being "nothing to do" would complain no matter where they lived.

Heck of a list! But I would much rather complain about how bored I am than go have fun!

frick no, I grew up in New Orleans, and there are way more things to do down there, places you can go to not be apart of the college crowd.

I understand Baton Rouge has things to do, but with Baton Rouge being a college town, getting away from the college aspect at the bar and music scenes is inevitably difficult.

I have always said a huge benefit to living in BR is I can literally go to NOLA any day/night I want. I am not a fan of living in NOLA to raise a family and deal with the issues NOLA has itself. Not knocking NOLA but please don't act like that is heaven on earth.
