Are you bullish on the future of EBR Parish?

Baton Rouge and EBR are at a turning point in history as far as I can tell, where the social and political problems can overwhelm it and the City/Parish will descend into a failed city where nobody will ever want to live again (like a Jackson, MS), or conversely things could come together and BR could become a relatively prosperous smallish southern city with decent enough cultural amenities (a Columbia, SC for example).
The greatest problem for BR going forward is the public schools. Let's just be honest, we have do deal with the legacy of our ignoble past, and we are burdened with a lot of kids who are just doomed to have a very hard time in school. The schools issue alone could be enough to sink EBR. The situation with the infrastructure is also very bad obviously, but the economy is great, and Jindal for all his flaws managed to create a lot of jobs. The cultural amenities here are, let's face it, bad. But maybe that will change with the revitalization of the downtown area.
So, how does it shake out? Is BR a failed city in twenty years, or a decent, comfortable place to live? I am maybe cautiously optimistic.

I gave up on it and left a couple years ago. It's only gotten worse since then.

Unless we focus on a large portion of mid-city and NBR, Baton Rouge is in a serious down-turn.

Corruption and "culture" will cause this.

Some of the more rapidly declining areas of BR:
Broadmoor
Sherwood Forest
Coursey area
Shenandoah
Jones Creek Road
The stretch of Florida Blvd from Sherwood Forest to Denham Springs is utterly depressing.

All the big plans for the LSU and downtown area suggest we're doing fine. Every city has its ghetto though. NBR is always gonna be NBR. We just need to keep it contained.

Except for a few Saturdays in the fall, BR will always play second fiddle to New Orleans.
You'll never hear someone excited to go on vacation to BR. You'll never hear of employees being excited about going to a conference in BR

I didn't sign the petition the first go around but the more time that passes, the more I think St George is the only thing that will keep this parish from the continuing fire sale. Obviously it failed and they have 2 years to wait until they can do it again, but I'm pretty sure they'll give it another go. Originally, I thought that a new city here would just push what was left of the actual city of BR into a bankrupt mess. But it now appears that without it, the entire parish will be laid to waste (BR and all the unincorporated areas with it) with everyone under 40 with kids bailing for Ascension or Livingston.
EBR in the state it's in currently is doomed. Come up with something to stop the bleeding, it may be able to be saved.

No question, but you don't need a lot of tourists to have a decent place to live and raise a family.

Outside of LSU and good food, Baton Rouge is a complete dumpster fire. Let's just be honest.
This coming from a lifelong resident.
-shitty traffic
-shitty people
-half the city below the poverty line
-hot as balls the majority of the year
-no nightlife outside of tigerland
-nothing to do
-dirty
-dangerous in most parts
-terrible public schools
-bad healthcare

This city is a shittown. Always has been but somehow it's getting worse. I didn't think it was possible.
The fact that the major roads were all generally random horse trails in the beginning tells you how much thought went into planning them and thinking it through.

The bussing issue which sent kids all over the city, bc too many schools were too black or too white crippled and still cripples EBR parish schools budget. It sent the last few good public schools into the toilet. The only savior will be if individual areas create their own ISDs like Zachary and Central. Like St. George, this will be faught tooth and nail by the status quo/ culcha community. They need the white folks money to keep their shite schools alive. Instead of looking in the mirror and fixing their own neighborhoods, they will fight others from keeping theirs together. You fix the schools and you have a chance to save BR. If not, keep circling the drain until the inevitable.

Some of y'all need to get out more and realize that BR is certainly far from perfect, but not the shithole the OT makes it out to be.

Yeah, but not 90% of the damn city itself. BR passed the tipping point a long time ago.
In short, BR is done. It's over.
